Check engine light on

Hey all! Having some worries about my 2014 BMW X3 diesel (127k km). The engine's running pretty rough lately with occasional misfires while driving. Check engine light is on and diagnostic shows Reset Quantity Drift Compensation error. Had a not-so-great experience with my last mechanic, so I'm hesitant to go back. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms in their X3? What was the actual problem and did you find a reliable fix? Would appreciate hearing about your experiences and recommendations. Thanks in advance for any input!

Hey there! I had almost identical issues with my 2011 BMW X5 35d last year. The rough running and misfires turned out to be faulty injectors. Initial symptoms started just like yours, rough idle, occasional misfires, and that dreaded check engine light. Got it checked at the garage, and the diagnosis confirmed two defective injectors that needed replacement. I was actually lucky they caught it early, the mechanic mentioned that bad injectors can cause serious engine damage if left unchecked. It was quite a serious job since they had to remove quite a bit of the engine cover and other components to access the injectors properly. The fix involved replacing the problematic injectors and reprogramming the ECU. Since the repair, the engine's been running smooth as silk, no more rough idle or misfires. My advice would be to get this checked soon, as these symptoms typically don't resolve themselves and could lead to bigger problems. Best of luck with your X3.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience! Really helpful to hear about a similar situation. Sorry to hear you had to deal with faulty injectors, but glad you got it sorted. How much did the whole repair set you back if you don't mind me asking? Also, have you had any other issues pop up since getting it fixed? My X3's still acting up, and I'm trying to get a sense of the potential costs before heading to a shop. Your story definitely makes me want to get it checked sooner rather than later.

Hey again! Happy to update you on my experience. The repair cost me 515 € to fix the faulty injector and get the Reset Quantity Drift Compensation sorted. Worth every penny though, the car's been running like a dream since then! Haven't had a single problem with the engine in the months following the repair. Just like my mechanic warned, waiting too long with these symptoms can lead to more expensive problems down the road. Honestly, I was pretty nervous about the cost initially, but looking back, I'm glad I bit the bullet and got it done. The peace of mind alone was worth it. Since you mentioned your X3's still acting up, I'd definitely recommend getting it checked soon. These symptoms don't tend to fix themselves, and my experience shows that addressing it promptly is the way to go. The driving experience is so much better now, no more of that annoying rough running or those worrying misfires. Let me know if you need any other info about the repair process. Always happy to help a fellow BMW owner!

Thanks for all the details! I actually took your advice and got my X3 checked out yesterday. The mechanic I found was really upfront and knowledgeable, totally different from my last experience. Turns out, one of the injectors was indeed faulty. The total bill came to around 480 €, a bit better than what I was expecting after hearing your story! They fixed the injector and did a full system reset. Took the car for a test drive today and wow, what a difference! The engine's running super smooth now, no more misfires or rough idling. Really appreciate you sharing your experience, it gave me the push I needed to get this sorted quickly. Was definitely worth the money to have my car running properly again. The mechanic also mentioned I made the right call getting it fixed before it could cause any bigger problems. Thanks again for all your help!
