Thanks for sharing your experience! Mine has done 50487 KM since new and was last serviced 3 months ago. No accidents or bumps recently, and no other warning lights besides the airbag one. The messages appear every time I start the car, and they're definitely not going away on their own. Really appreciate your input about the acceleration sensor, that's good to know because I was worried it might be something more serious with the airbag system itself. I'll mention this to my mechanic when I take it in. Did you notice any other symptoms before getting yours fixed?
Hey again! Thanks for those details about your X3. Yeah, that's exactly how mine started acting up too, those persistent warnings at every start-up. Since you're asking about other symptoms, in my case, I actually noticed that the warning would sometimes flicker a bit before staying solid, but that was really the only other thing I picked up on. Your mileage is actually pretty similar to what mine had when this happened, and the fact that it's showing up consistently (like mine did) really does point to that acceleration sensor. I was also worried about the airbag system at first, but that warning light is actually just because the active hood system is part of the safety network. One thing I didn't mention before, after my mechanic fixed it, he recommended checking the connections around the sensor too. Apparently, sometimes the wiring can get a bit dodgy over time, even without any obvious damage. Mine were fine, but might be worth having them look at that while they're in there. Just keep in mind though, even if it seems like the same issue, definitely get it checked out soon. These safety systems aren't something you want to leave acting up for too long. Let me know how it goes when you get it sorted!
Thanks so much for all this detailed information! It's really helpful to hear about the wiring check too, I'll definitely ask my mechanic to look into that. You've actually made me feel a lot better about the whole situation, especially knowing that the airbag light is just connected to the active hood system. I've already called my mechanic and booked it in for next week. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and advice, it's exactly what I needed to know before heading to the shop. I'll update the thread once I get it fixed, in case anyone else runs into the same problem with their X3!
Hi there! I have some experience working on BMWs and faced a similar issue with my 2006 BMW X5 last year. The warning lights and error messages you described sound very familiar. In my case, it turned out to be a faulty acceleration sensor that was triggering false readings for the active hood system. My trusted mechanic diagnosed it properly and replaced the sensor. The whole thing cost me around 315 Euro, but it fixed the problem completely. I also own a BMW 5 series, and these sensors can be quite sensitive on these models. Before suggesting anything specific, could you share: Have you had any recent accidents or bumps? Are there any other warning lights showing up? Does the issue appear consistently or intermittently? This would help me understand if you're dealing with the same problem I had. The active hood system is pretty complex, so it's best to have it checked by a professional BMW technician to be safe.
