Hey everyone! I'm having trouble with the sunblind on my 2022 BMW X2. It's stuck in position and won't move at all, neither retract nor extend. The car is showing a related error code too. I suspect the sunblind mechanism might be faulty. Has anyone dealt with a similar issue? I'd really appreciate hearing about your repair experiences and what the actual problem turned out to be. Also interested in knowing what your dealer or workshop did to fix it.

Hi there! I have some experience working on cars and had a similar issue with my 2020 BMW X1. The symptoms were exactly the same, stuck sunblind and error message on the dash. I took it to my trusted workshop and it turned out the sunblind motor was completely dead. They had to replace the entire motor unit, which set me back about 330 Euro including labor. The repair took about 2 hours. Could you share more details about your X2? Like the exact error code you're getting? Also, do you hear any noise when trying to operate the sunblind? This info would help determine if you're dealing with the same problem I had. For what it's worth, since the repair, my sunblind has been working perfectly. BMWs are great cars but these small electrical issues can pop up occasionally.

Hi! Thanks for sharing your experience. I've got the same error code (can't remember the exact number right now) and no noise when trying to operate it. My X2 has 119959 KM on the clock and just had its service last month, but this issue started recently. Good to know the repair was straightforward in your case, that gives me hope! The symptoms match exactly what you described. I'm wondering though, did you try any troubleshooting before taking it to the workshop? I've been hesitant to mess with it too much in case I make things worse. Really appreciate your input on this!

Hey again! Thanks for asking about troubleshooting. Actually, before taking my X1 to the workshop, I did try a few basic things, but honestly, I was also pretty cautious about not making things worse! I first tried the classic "turn it off and on again" approach by disconnecting the battery for about 15 minutes to reset the electronics. That didn't help at all. Then I tried manually pressing the reset button for the sunblind (you can find it near the overhead controls) and held it for about 10 seconds. Still nothing. With the same symptoms and error code as yours, plus the complete silence when trying to operate it, I'd bet you're dealing with the same dead motor issue I had. Especially since your mileage is quite similar to what mine was when it failed (I was at around 115000 KM). Since you've just had your service, maybe check if this would be covered under any warranty? My workshop mentioned these motors typically last about 100000-120000 KM, so the timing fits the pattern. One tip though, if you decide to get it fixed, make sure they check the wiring harness too. In my case, they found some slight wear in the wiring while replacing the motor, and fixed that at the same time to prevent future issues.

Thanks so much for all that detailed info! That's super helpful, especially about checking the wiring harness, definitely wouldn't have thought of that. I actually tried disconnecting the battery too, but like you said, it did absolutely nothing. Didn't know about that reset button though! I'll give my dealer a call tomorrow and mention these symptoms. Really hoping it's just the motor like in your case. My warranty expired last month actually, just my luck! But at least I know roughly what to expect cost-wise now. 330 Euro isn't cheap, but it's better than what I was imagining. Thanks again for sharing your experience, it's reassuring to know I'm not the only one who's dealt with this issue. I'll update once I get it sorted!
