Thanks for the input! My X2 has only done 5547 KM since I got it, and it's still fairly new. I'm getting the "Front Collision Warning System Failure" message, mostly when it's raining or right after a car wash. The adaptive cruise control also stops working when this happens. All systems were fine after the latest service, but the issue started popping up again last week. Really hope it's just a dirty sensor like in your case, that would be way better than having to replace the whole unit. Did your tech mention anything about preventive maintenance for these sensors? Would definitely want to avoid future headaches!
Oh I totally get your situation now! Yeah, that's exactly how mine started too, same error message and everything. The rain and car wash connection is a dead giveaway, it's most likely the same issue I had with my X1. Since you mentioned it's only got 5547 KM, it's probably still under warranty, right? But honestly, it really sounds like it just needs a good cleaning and recalibration. My tech actually showed me what to look out for after fixing mine. He said these sensors are super sensitive to any kind of buildup, even just road grime or water spots can mess with them. For preventive maintenance, my tech gave me some solid tips: avoid hitting the sensor directly with high-pressure water when washing the car, and give it a gentle wipe with a microfiber cloth every now and then. Also, there's this special coating they can apply that helps prevent water from sticking to the sensor, might be worth asking about that. Quick question though, have you noticed if the error clears up on its own after the car dries out? With mine, it would sometimes sort itself out after a few hours of dry weather, but then come right back with the next rain. Let me know if that sounds familiar!
Thanks so much for all those details! Yeah, it does clear up after the car dries out completely, which makes me feel better about it probably being a cleaning issue. You're right about the warranty, I've still got about a year left on it, so I'll definitely take it to the dealer first just to be safe. Really appreciate the maintenance tips, especially about the high-pressure washing, I've definitely been blasting that area pretty hard during car washes! Never knew about that special coating either, sounds like something worth looking into. The microfiber cloth tip is super helpful too. I'll get it checked out this week and hopefully it'll just need a good clean and calibration like yours did. Will probably try to be more careful with car washes from now on too. Thanks again for all your help, it's really put my mind at ease knowing someone else dealt with the same thing and got it sorted without any major repairs!
Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2018 BMW X1 last year (I've got some experience working on BMWs, mostly basic maintenance stuff). Those radar sensor problems can be super annoying! Mine started acting up just like yours, warning lights and system errors all over the place. Took it to my regular workshop and turns out the sensor was just really dirty. The tech cleaned it properly, recalibrated the system, and everything went back to normal. Only cost me 45 Euro for the service. Before I share more specifics that might help, could you tell me which exact error messages you're getting and if you've noticed any particular conditions when they appear (like bad weather or after washing the car)? Also, which systems exactly are failing? In BMWs, these symptoms can sometimes point to different root causes.
