BMW X2 Power Loss: DISA Valve Symptoms & Solutions

Hey all, having trouble with my 2019 BMW X2 (gas). Engine's acting up, power loss, CEL on, rough idle with occasional stalls, and sluggish throttle response. Scan shows error codes. Think it might be the DISA valve. Anyone dealt with similar symptoms and got it fixed? Interested in repair experiences and workshop solutions. Thanks!

Hey there! I have some experience working on BMWs. Had a similar issue with my 2017 BMW X1 last year. Those symptoms sound exactly like what I went through, it was super annoying, especially the power loss and rough idle. The DISA valve was indeed the culprit in my case. Took it to my workshop, and they confirmed it after diagnosis. The whole DISA unit needed replacement. Cost me around 280 Euro, but it solved all the issues, engine's been running smooth since then. Just to be thorough, could you share more details about your X2? Like the mileage and when these symptoms started? Also, what specific error codes are you getting? That would help confirm if it's the same issue I had with my X1. Quick tip: Don't wait too long on this one. When my DISA valve started acting up, putting off the repair only made the symptoms worse.

Thanks for sharing that info about your X1! Just had my service last month at 142878 KM, and these symptoms started showing up about two weeks ago. Getting error codes P0015 and P1017, which seems to match what you described. Really helpful to hear about your experience, makes me more confident it's the DISA valve. Did you notice any improvement in fuel consumption after the repair? Mine's been drinking fuel like crazy lately.

Hey again! Good to hear back from you. Yeah, when I got my X1 fixed, I definitely noticed a big difference in fuel consumption, it was like night and day! Before the repair, my car was guzzling fuel like crazy too, probably 20-25% more than usual. After replacing the DISA valve, it went back to normal within a couple of tank fills. Those error codes you're getting (P0015 and P1017) are exactly what I had. It's pretty much textbook DISA valve failure. You know what's funny? I also noticed the issues right after hitting around 140K km, seems to be a common mileage point for these problems to show up in our models. Just a heads up, when I got mine fixed, the mechanic showed me the old DISA valve, and it was pretty gunked up. Apparently, it's worth getting it checked during regular maintenance once you're past 100K km to catch any issues early. The symptoms you're describing are spot on with what I experienced, so I'm pretty confident you're dealing with the same thing. Quick question, have you noticed any weird whistling noise from the engine bay? That was another thing I experienced right before things got really bad with mine.

Thanks a ton for all that detailed info! This really helps confirm what I was suspecting. Actually, now that you mention it, I have been hearing a faint whistling sound, especially during cold starts, didn't think much of it until now. It's interesting that your fuel consumption went back to normal after the fix. That's a relief to hear because I'm currently spending way too much on fuel. I'll definitely get this sorted soon then, no point waiting around and making things worse. Kind of kicking myself for not getting it checked during the last service, but at least now I know what to look out for in the future. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. Think I'll book it in for repair next week before it gets any worse. Thanks again for all the help!
