Thanks for sharing your experience! I'm at 198020 KM and just had my service last month. I'm not getting any error codes right now, which is making it even more confusing. Did your car also show normal diagnostics despite these issues? I'm really hoping it's just the pedal module like in your case, as that sounds like a more straightforward fix than replacing the whole throttle system. The symptoms are exactly as you described, it's really frustrating, especially during city driving when you need responsive acceleration.
Hey again! Yeah, that's actually really similar to what happened with my X1. My car also didn't show any error codes initially, which drove me crazy trying to figure out what was wrong. I was at about 185,000 KM when these issues started popping up. The tricky thing with these pedal modules is that they can act up without triggering the check engine light. In my case, the issues were most noticeable during slow-speed driving and when trying to maintain a steady speed. The jerking was particularly bad when I needed to accelerate quickly to merge or pass. I actually drove it like that for about two weeks before taking it to the workshop because, like you, I thought it might fix itself (spoiler alert: it didn't). The workshop did a thorough diagnostic test and found that the pedal position sensor was sending irregular signals to the ECU, even though it wasn't throwing any codes. Quick tip from my experience, if you decide to get it checked, make sure they specifically test the pedal module's sensor readings. My first mechanic missed it because he was too focused on the throttle body. Since you're having identical symptoms and no error codes, I'd bet good money you're dealing with the same issue. After they replaced my pedal module, it was like driving a completely different car, smooth acceleration, normal fuel consumption, and no more jerking. Definitely worth getting it checked out sooner rather than later.
I would respond (as: Thanks so much for the detailed explanation, this is super helpful! The irregular signals from the pedal position sensor makes total sense given how the car's behaving. I'm definitely going to mention this specifically when I take it in. You're right about not waiting too long, I've been putting it off hoping it would magically fix itself, but after hearing your experience, I'll book it in this week. Quick question though, did you notice if the jerking got worse when the engine was cold, or was it pretty consistent regardless of engine temperature? Mine seems particularly bad during the first 10 minutes of driving. And it's good to know about specifically requesting the pedal module sensor test, I'll make sure to bring that up. Really appreciate you taking the time to share all this info. Sounds like I might be able to avoid an unnecessary throttle replacement and save some money too!
Hey there! I had similar issues with my 2017 BMW X1 last year (some experience with car maintenance). These symptoms sound very familiar. My X1 was doing the same thing, jerking, sluggish response, and being a pain to start. I thought it was the throttle too, but it turned out to be a faulty accelerator pedal module. Took it to my regular workshop and they diagnosed it pretty quickly. They had to replace the entire pedal module, which sorted out all the issues. Cost me around 205 Euro, and I've had no problems since. The fuel consumption went back to normal too. Before I share more specifics, could you tell me if you're getting any error codes? Also, how many miles/kilometers do you have on your X2? This could help pinpoint if we're dealing with the same issue.
