BMW X2 Injector Issues: Rough Idle and Failed Emissions

Stalling while idling

Unsteady engine

Poor fuel economy

Loss of engine power

Engine hard to start

Hey all! Need some advice on my 2019 BMW X2 (gas engine, 154k km). My car's been acting up lately, rough starts, drinking more fuel than usual, and running pretty weak with a choppy idle. Sometimes it even dies when idling. Failed emissions too. After my last not-so-great mechanic experience, I'm thinking it might be a faulty injector. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? What was your diagnosis and how much did the fix cost? Just want to be prepared before heading to a new shop. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had nearly identical issues with my 2016 BMW X1 last year. The symptoms matched yours exactly, rough idle, stalling, higher fuel consumption, and weak performance. Turned out my fuel injectors were seriously clogged up. Had to get the injectors cleaned professionally at the shop. They found carbon deposits were blocking proper fuel flow. While not a catastrophic issue if caught early, it can lead to bigger engine problems if left unchecked. The mechanic showed me the buildup, it was pretty bad. In my case, they ended up having to clean all injectors and replace one that was beyond saving. After the fix, the car ran like new again, smooth idle, better throttle response, and back to normal fuel consumption. My advice: Don't wait too long. Those symptoms are classic injector problems, and the failed emissions test pretty much confirms it. Get it checked by a reputable BMW specialist. Hope this helps!

Thanks for sharing your experience! That really matches what I'm going through with my X2. You've given me some peace of mind knowing it's likely the injectors. Did you remember roughly how much you paid for the whole job? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other issues pop up?

Hey again! Glad I could help! Yeah, since we last chatted, thought I'd let you know the final cost was 515 € to fix my injection valve issue. One of them was completely shot and needed replacing. Money well spent though, my X1's been running like a dream since then! After getting it sorted at the mechanic, all those annoying problems completely disappeared. The rough idle? Gone. Fuel consumption? Back to normal. It's like having a new car again. Not a single problem in the months since the repair. Just remember to use good quality fuel and maybe think about getting fuel system cleaners now and then, helps prevent these issues from coming back. My mechanic suggested this as preventive maintenance, and I've been following that advice. Let me know how it goes with your X2! Pretty sure you'll notice a massive difference once it's fixed.

Thanks so much for all the detailed info! Just got back from my mechanic visit today, and you were spot on. My injectors were seriously gunked up, and two needed replacement. Bill came to roughly 600 for the whole job, a bit more than yours but still worth every penny. The difference is like night and day! My X2's running super smooth now, no more rough starts or stalling. The mechanic also gave me the same advice about using quality fuel and system cleaners. Already picked up a bottle of fuel system cleaner to use every few months. Really appreciate you sharing your experience, helped me avoid getting overcharged or misdiagnosed. Now I can finally enjoy driving my car again without worrying about it dying at every stoplight! Thanks again for all your help!
