Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful and sounds pretty similar to my situation. Just wondering, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole repair job? Also, has everything been working fine since then, or have you noticed any other heating quirks? Thanks for the winter advice too, definitely don't want to get caught out in the cold with a dodgy heater!
Hey again! Yeah, I took your advice and got it sorted at a mechanic last week. Good news, it turned out to be exactly what you mentioned about the water valve being faulty. They fixed it right up, and I paid 95 € for sorting out the cable/plug connection that was playing up. Got to say, I'm pretty relieved it wasn't anything more serious. The heating's working perfectly now, nice and even on both sides, and no more warning lights on the dash! It's like having a completely different car. Much cozier now that the heat's working properly. You were spot on about getting it checked before winter, definitely worth every penny. The repair was actually cheaper than I expected, especially considering it's a BMW. Just thought I'd let you know since you were dealing with similar issues. Sometimes these things turn out to be simpler fixes than we fear! Let me know if you need any other info about the repair. Always happy to help out a fellow BMW owner!
Thanks for the update! I finally took my car to get checked yesterday. What a relief, turned out my issue was different though. Had a clogged heater core that needed a good flush, plus they found some debris blocking the flow. Mechanic showed me all the gunk they cleaned out, pretty nasty stuff! Bill came to around 200 bucks for the flush and general inspection. Bit more than your repair, but honestly, I'm just happy it's sorted. The heat's working like a charm now, both sides blasting evenly, and that annoying warning light is finally gone. Funny how we worry about these things being major issues, but sometimes it's just basic maintenance stuff. Really glad I didn't put it off any longer. Thanks again for all your help and pushing me to get it checked out. Time to enjoy my properly heated car!
Hey! I can relate to your heating problem. I experienced something very similar with my 2018 BMW X1 last winter. Initially thought it was the water valve too, but when I took it to the garage, it turned out the problem was more basic, a loose connection in the HVAC control module's wiring harness. The technician found that the connector pins had corroded, causing intermittent heating issues and the warning light. The symptoms were exactly like yours, uneven heating and one side working while the other didn't. They had to clean the connections and replace a damaged plug. It wasn't a major repair, but leaving it unfixed could have led to more serious electrical issues down the line. They also flushed the heating system while they were at it, just to be safe. My advice would be to get it checked soon, especially since winter's coming up. Heating issues on BMWs can be tricky, sometimes what seems like a valve problem can be something completely different.
