Thanks for sharing your experience! I'm at 118489 KM, and just had my last service about 2 months ago. Actually, no weird noises at all when engaging the brake, it just completely stopped responding. The brake warning light came on first, then all the other alerts started popping up one after another. It's frustrating because everything was working perfectly fine until yesterday. No previous electrical issues at all, which makes this even more puzzling. Thanks for the heads up about the caliper motor, that's definitely something I'll mention when I take it in.
Hey again! Thanks for those details about your X2. You know what, your situation sounds even more similar to mine now that you've explained it better. When my X1's parking brake failed, it was also super sudden, working fine one day, completely dead the next. And just like yours, no strange noises or warning signs beforehand. The fact that all your systems went haywire at once actually makes me think it might not be just the brake caliper motor like in my case. Could be something to do with the main control module. My mechanic mentioned this possibility with mine too, though we got lucky it was just the caliper motor. Since you mentioned having service done recently, maybe get them to check if anything got knocked loose during that work? I've learned these electronic systems can be super sensitive. I'd definitely get it checked soon though, driving without a working parking brake isn't great, plus all those disabled assistance systems could be a safety issue. Keep me posted on what they find, I'm really curious if it turns out to be the same problem as mine or something else entirely!
Thanks for the additional insight! You've got me a bit worried about the control module possibility, that sounds like it could be more expensive than just a caliper motor. But you make a good point about checking if something got loose during the recent service. I've already called my mechanic and got an appointment for tomorrow morning. You're absolutely right about not waiting, I've been parking on flat surfaces and using the regular brakes, but I really don't want to risk driving around too much with all these systems disabled. I'll definitely update you once I find out what's causing all this. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, it helps to know someone else has dealt with similar issues and got them resolved. Thanks again for all the helpful information!
Hey there! I've got some experience with cars (low experience). I had a similar issue with my 2016 BMW X1 2.0L last year. The electronic parking brake totally gave up, and I got those annoying warning lights too. Turned out the electric motor in the brake caliper was defective. Took it to my regular workshop, and they diagnosed it pretty quickly. Had to replace the whole brake caliper assembly with a new motor. Set me back about 505 Euro, but at least it fixed all those warning lights and the hill assist started working again. What's your current mileage on the X2? Also, are you hearing any unusual noises when trying to engage the parking brake? These details would help me understand if you're dealing with the same problem I had. BTW, have you had any other electrical issues with your X2 before this happened?
