Thanks for sharing your X1 story! My X2 recently hit 162054 KM, and I've been diligent with servicing, last one was just three weeks ago. Those symptoms you described are exactly what I'm experiencing. The error codes I'm getting are multiple, mainly related to communication failures between different modules. Everything started suddenly last Tuesday while I was driving home. No warning signs before that, the car just went into a sort of limp mode with all systems failing one after another. Hearing that your issue was just cable-related gives me hope! Did your workshop mention anything about diagnostic fees? I'm trying to budget for this repair and wondering what to expect. Really hoping it's something similar to your case and not the entire FlexRay system that needs replacing.
Hey again! Thanks for those details about your X2. Yeah, our cases do sound really similar! In my case, the diagnostic fee was around 120 Euro, but it really depends on the workshop. For the actual problem, mine also showed those communication failure codes between modules, just like yours. The workshop initially thought it might be the FlexRay system too, which had me worried about a massive repair bill! But here's something interesting, when they dug deeper, they found that water had gotten into one of the main connector housings under the hood. This caused corrosion and messed with the signals between modules. The symptoms were identical to a FlexRay failure, but the fix was much simpler. Since your issues started suddenly like mine, and you're seeing similar error codes, I'd bet it could be something similar. Have you noticed any dampness in your car or had any issues with water leaks? Also, three weeks seems like quite a coincidence since your last service, might be worth checking if something got knocked loose during the maintenance. Just a heads up, even though my fix was relatively simple, the diagnostic process took about two days because they had to test all the connections. But it was way better than replacing the whole FlexRay system! Let me know how it goes, I'm really curious if it turns out to be the same issue as mine.
Thanks so much for all this detailed info, it's super helpful! Actually, now that you mention water, I remember driving through some heavy rain about a week before the last service. I'll definitely mention this to the workshop, along with checking if anything got disturbed during the recent service. You've really put my mind at ease about the potential costs. I was worried I'd be looking at thousands in repairs if it was the full FlexRay system. The diagnostic fee sounds reasonable too, I'd rather pay that and find out it's just a connector issue than skip it and potentially miss something simple. I've booked the car in for next week, and I'll definitely update this thread once I know what's actually wrong. Really hoping it's just corroded connections like in your case! Thanks again for sharing your experience, it's given me a much better idea of what to expect and what to ask the workshop to check.
Hey there! I have some experience with BMWs and had a similar electrical nightmare with my 2019 BMW X1. I feel your pain! My car suddenly went haywire, total system shutdown, no entertainment system, and a bunch of error messages. After taking it to my regular workshop, they found it was just a faulty cable connection to the main control unit. Some connections had gotten loose and corroded over time. The fix was pretty straightforward, they replaced the damaged cables and connectors, which cost me about 95 Euro. Been running perfectly since then. Before I can help more specifically with your X2, could you share: What error codes you're getting? When did these issues start? Did anything specific happen before the problems began? Hopefully, it's something simple like mine was!
