Thanks for sharing your experience! My X2 has 109533 KM on the clock and was last serviced about 3 months ago. I mostly do short commutes during weekdays, and the issues started appearing gradually over the last few weeks. The battery's actually original, never been replaced since I got the car. After reading your reply, I'm thinking it's probably time for a new one. Weird how these electrical issues can all stem from one aging battery! Will definitely get it checked out by a mechanic. Thanks again for the detailed explanation and cost breakdown, really helpful!
Hey again! Thanks for the additional info about your X2. Yeah, with that mileage and especially those short commutes, I'm even more convinced it's the battery. Listen, when my X1 started acting up, it was also on its original battery with similar mileage. The short trips are really tough on these batteries, they never get a chance to fully charge, especially with all the start-stop cycling. One thing I learned from my experience, don't wait too long to replace it. When I first noticed the issues, I kept putting it off for a few weeks, thinking it wasn't urgent. Big mistake! One morning, I ended up stranded in my driveway. These symptoms are basically the car crying for help! Since you mentioned your car was serviced 3 months ago, it's weird they didn't flag the battery condition during the check-up. My mechanic now does a battery health check with every service, might be worth asking your workshop about that. After I got my new battery, it was like having a different car, everything just worked smoothly again. Just make sure to get a proper BMW-spec battery; these cars can be picky about that stuff. Let me know how it goes when you get it checked out!
Thanks for the additional advice! You're totally right about not waiting, I've already called my workshop and scheduled an appointment for tomorrow morning. Don't want to risk getting stranded somewhere! Actually, now that you mention it, I'm a bit annoyed they didn't check the battery during the service. I'll definitely bring that up with them and ask about regular battery health checks going forward. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience in detail. The bit about getting a BMW-spec battery is especially helpful, wouldn't have thought about that. Will make sure to insist on it when they do the replacement. I'll keep you posted on how it goes, but feeling much more confident now about what needs to be done. Thanks again for all your help!
Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2017 BMW X1 (also had an X3 before). I have some experience working on cars, mainly basic maintenance. My X1 showed pretty much the same symptoms, weird error messages popping up, start-stop going crazy, and starting problems. Took it to my regular workshop where I've been going for years. They ran diagnostics and found that the main battery was on its last legs. The cells were damaged, probably from lots of short trips and the start-stop system. Got it replaced, and it cost me around 290 Euro, parts and labor included. All the electrical gremlins disappeared right after. These newer BMWs are pretty sensitive to battery health. Could you share more details about your driving habits and when you first noticed these issues? Also, when was the last time your battery was replaced? This info would help figure out if you're dealing with the same problem.
