BMW X2 Diesel Misfire: Reset Quantity Drift Issue Alert

Check engine light on

Hi all! Need advice on my 2019 BMW X2 diesel (172k km). Engine's running pretty rough lately with unusual misfires during drives. Check engine light is on and the diagnostic shows a reset quantity drift compensation error. Had some bad experiences with mechanics before, so I'm a bit hesitant to just take it anywhere. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms on their X2? Any recommendations on what to expect for repairs and costs? Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2016 BMW X1 diesel last year. The symptoms match exactly what you're describing, rough idle, misfires, and that same error code. Turns out one of my injectors was defective and needed replacement. From my experience at the garage, they had to run extensive diagnostic tests to pinpoint which injector was faulty. They also checked the fuel pressure and did a thorough cleaning of the fuel system. In my case, they had to replace two injectors that were beyond repair. This isn't something you want to ignore, faulty injectors can lead to bigger engine problems if left unchecked. When mine was acting up, it got worse pretty quickly over a couple of weeks. The repair itself took about a day and a half because they had to calibrate the new injectors properly. Best to get it checked by a certified BMW specialist. This isn't a job for a general mechanic, as the programming and calibration require specific diagnostic equipment.

Thanks for sharing this info about the injectors! I've actually just scheduled an appointment with a BMW specialist for next week based on your advice. Would you mind sharing roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole repair? Also curious if you've had any similar issues pop up since getting it fixed? Cheers!

Hey again! Just wanted to update you on my repair costs, I paid 515 € to get the injector fixed, and it was totally worth it. The Reset quantity drift compensation issue hasn't shown up since, and my X1's been running smoothly. I see you've booked with a BMW specialist, that's definitely the right move! Since getting mine fixed last year, I haven't had any related problems at all. The engine runs like new, no more misfires or rough running. It's amazing what a difference fixing that faulty injector made. Quick tip though, once it's fixed, keep an eye on your fuel quality. I've been more careful about where I fill up since then, and I think it's helped keep everything running smoothly. Hope this helps with your expectations for the repair. Let us know how it goes with your X2!

Thanks everyone for the great advice! Just wanted to close this thread with an update on my X2. Finally got it checked out at the BMW specialist and the diagnosis matched exactly what he mentioned, faulty injector was the culprit. They found one bad injector and recommended replacing it along with a full system cleaning. The whole job came to around 480€, which wasn't as bad as I'd feared. Got the car back yesterday and what a difference! The engine's running super smooth now, no more misfires or rough idle. Check engine light is gone too. The mechanic was really thorough and took time explaining everything they did. Actually felt good about the service for once! Taking your advice about fuel quality too, going to be more selective about where I fill up from now on. Thanks again everyone for helping me avoid what could've been a much bigger headache if left unchecked. All sorted now, case closed!

Let our mechanics help you!
