Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful since I'm having the exact same symptoms. I'll definitely have them check both the motor and resistor when I take it in. Would you mind sharing approximately how much you ended up paying for the whole repair? Also curious if you've had any ventilation issues pop up since getting it fixed?
Hey there! Just wanted to follow up since I got the repair done. After taking it to my mechanic, they diagnosed and fixed the fresh air blower issue that was bothering me. Happy to report it's working perfectly now, feels like a new car! The total cost came to 365 € for replacing the defective blower motor. Honestly, I'm relieved it wasn't more expensive, given how these repairs can sometimes add up on BMWs. Since getting it fixed several months ago, the ventilation system has been running like a charm, no issues whatsoever. The air flow is strong and consistent, just like it should be. It's such a relief not having to drive around without proper ventilation anymore. I'd say it was definitely worth every penny to get it sorted properly. A working climate control system makes such a huge difference to the driving experience, especially during extreme weather.
Thanks for the update! I finally bit the bullet and took my X2 to the mechanic yesterday. You're absolutely right, it's working perfectly now! In my case, they also found it was the blower motor that needed replacing. Really glad I didn't put it off any longer. The whole experience wasn't nearly as painful as I'd feared. The mechanic was upfront about everything and showed me the old motor, which was pretty much shot. The repair took about three hours, and I paid just under 400 for parts and labor. A bit steep, but honestly worth every penny to have proper air flow again. Funny story, while I was waiting, another customer came in with the exact same issue on their BMW. The mechanic mentioned they see this problem quite often, especially in cars with higher mileage like mine. At least I know it wasn't just bad luck! Thanks again for your advice earlier. Really helped me feel more confident about getting it fixed instead of putting it off longer.
I had the exact same issue with my 2016 BMW X3 last winter. The blower motor completely died, no air coming through vents at all. Turned out the blower motor resistor was fried, which also damaged the motor itself. When I took it to the garage, they found that some debris had gotten into the blower housing over time, causing the motor to work harder until it failed. They had to replace both the blower motor and resistor. Not a super complex job, but definitely needed a professional since they had to partially dismantle the dashboard to access everything. It's actually a fairly common issue once these cars get higher mileage. The repair took about 4 hours total. While it wasn't cheap, it wasn't the worst repair I've faced with my BMW. Just make sure they check both components (motor and resistor) since replacing just one might not fix the issue if both are damaged. Worth getting it fixed soon though, driving without proper ventilation isn't great for the car or comfortable for you.
