Thanks for the detailed response! Yeah, getting error codes 5DC1 and 5DC2. The central locking still works fine, but none of those optical signals you mentioned are showing up. I actually tried the battery disconnect trick already, no luck there. The interior lights and everything else seem to be working normally, it's just the anti-theft system that's completely unresponsive. Just had my service done at 180308 KM, and this started right after. Really hoping it's just a programming issue like yours and not something more serious with the control module itself.
Hey again! Oh those are the exact same error codes I got with my X1! And the timing with your service visit sounds really familiar, mine also acted up right after routine maintenance. Since you're getting the same codes and symptoms, I'm pretty confident it's that recoding issue I mentioned. The fact that your central locking works but you're not getting the optical signals is almost identical to what I experienced. The control module itself is probably fine, these systems just get weirdly finicky after certain service procedures. I remember feeling pretty stressed about it too, thinking it might be something major, but it really was just a simple reprogram. My car's been working perfectly since then, no more alarm issues at all. Just passed 200000 km actually! Quick heads up though, when you take it in, make sure they check the connection between the FRM module and the alarm system while they're at it. My mechanic did that as a precaution, and it's worth having them look since they'll already be working on the system. Let me know how it goes! Always happy to share what I learned from my experience.
Thanks so much for all this info, it's really put my mind at ease! That's super helpful knowing you had the exact same error codes. I'll definitely mention the FRM module connection when I take it in. Going to schedule an appointment tomorrow and specifically ask about the recoding fix you mentioned. Really glad to hear it wasn't anything major in your case and that your car's still running strong at 200000 km. Mine's generally been pretty reliable too, so hopefully this will just be a quick fix like yours was. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience, it's exactly the kind of firsthand info I was hoping to get. I'll update once I get it sorted out!
Hey there! I had a somewhat similar issue with my 2018 BMW X1 last year (I have some basic experience working on cars, but nothing too fancy). The anti-theft system was acting up, and it turned out the alarm system needed recoding for the optical locking signals. My local workshop sorted it out for about 45 Euro, they basically reprogrammed the system to properly sync with the indicators. Pretty straightforward fix, took them less than an hour. What specific error codes are you getting? Also, have you noticed any other electrical issues, like weird behavior with the central locking or interior lights? Knowing these details would help figure out if you're dealing with the same problem I had. By the way, have you tried disconnecting the battery for a few minutes? Sometimes that can reset things. Just curious before you head to a repair shop.
