BMW X1 Throttle Issues: Rough Running and Poor Performance

Hey everyone! Having trouble with my 2023 BMW X1 and need your input. My car is acting up with rough engine operation, sluggish acceleration, and excessive fuel usage. Also noticed it's harder to start than usual. I suspect it might be a faulty throttle valve. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? What was your repair experience and how did your mechanic resolve it? Would really appreciate hearing about diagnostic steps and actual fixes. Thanks in advance.

Hey there! I've got some experience with cars, had something really similar with my 2021 BMW X3 last year. The symptoms you're describing sound exactly like what I went through, my car was acting up the same way. Turned out it was a defective accelerator pedal module. Took it to my regular workshop, and they diagnosed it pretty quickly with their diagnostic tools. Had to leave the car for a day, cost me around 205 Euro for the whole fix (parts and labor). Been running smooth ever since. But before jumping to conclusions, could you tell us: How many miles/kilometers on your X1? When did these symptoms first start? Any warning lights on the dashboard? This info would help better match your situation with mine, and I might be able to share more specific details about the repair process.

Thanks for sharing that experience with the X3! I'm currently at 196,083 KM and just had my service last month. The symptoms started about two weeks ago, and yeah, I've got the engine warning light on. Your accelerator pedal module suggestion is interesting, I hadn't considered that. The symptoms really do sound similar to what you experienced. My initial thought was the throttle valve because a mentioned it, but now I'm thinking it might be worth checking the accelerator module first. Did your car also have that slight hesitation when you first pressed the gas pedal? The repair cost you mentioned seems pretty reasonable compared to what I was expecting to pay for the throttle valve replacement.

Hey again! Thanks for those details about your X1. You know what's wild? That hesitation you mentioned when pressing the gas, that's EXACTLY what I experienced with my X3! Really takes me back to those frustrating drives before I got it fixed. And yeah, I totally get why your suggested the throttle valve. I actually went down that road first too because the symptoms can be pretty similar. But here's something interesting, when my mechanic hooked up the diagnostic tool, it pointed straight to the accelerator pedal module. The fault codes were super specific. With 196K on the clock, it's actually a pretty common wear point for these modules in BMWs. Mine was at about 185K when it started acting up. The hesitation you're describing, combined with the engine light and the poor fuel economy, it's like déjà vu of my situation. Quick tip from my experience, when they replace the module, make sure they do a proper calibration afterward. My mechanic told me this is crucial for these BMWs, and he wasn't wrong. The whole system needs to "learn" the new module's behavior. Tell you what, maybe get it checked out at your workshop and see what the diagnostic says? Just to be 100% sure. Would love to hear what they find out! Keep us posted?

Thanks so much for all that detailed info! You've honestly made me feel a lot better about this whole situation. I'm going to book it in at my workshop tomorrow, your experience with the diagnostic process and the importance of calibration is super helpful to know ahead of time. I'll definitely get them to check the accelerator pedal module first. Makes total sense about the mileage being a common wear point too. It's actually reassuring to hear that your repair cost wasn't astronomical, I was really worried about ending up with a massive bill. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience in such detail. I'll definitely update the thread once I get it checked out. Fingers crossed it's the same issue and can be sorted as smoothly as yours was! Thanks again for all your help!
