Hey! Sorry to hear you went through something similar with your X3. It's funny you mention the intake boot issue, that's exactly what it turned out to be on mine too! The dealership sorted it pretty quickly and the car's been running like a dream since. By the way, do you remember roughly how much you paid for the repair? And has everything been okay with your car since then, or did you run into any other issues? Just want to make sure I'm not missing anything that might need checking while it's in the shop.
Hey again! Just had to jump in and share some good news, my X3's been running like a champ since getting it fixed! The repair cost me 235 € to sort out that vacuum leak, but honestly, it was worth every penny. The mechanic actually found and fixed a faulty manifold pressure sensor while they were at it, talk about a two-for-one deal! Since then, my fuel consumption's back to normal and that annoying power loss is completely gone. It's like driving a different car now. No other issues have popped up in the past year, which is pretty reassuring. Just make sure they do a thorough check of all the connecting hoses while they're in there, prevention's always better than cure with these BMWs, right? Glad to hear your X1's back in shape too. These things can be a pain when they act up, but once they're sorted, they're fantastic machines to drive.
Thanks so much for the detailed follow-up! Just got back from the mechanic today actually. They fixed the vacuum leak and did a complete inspection, turns out I got lucky because the rest of the hoses were still in good shape. Total bill came to about 300, which wasn't as bad as I feared. What a difference though! The car feels completely transformed. Took it for a test drive and the power's back, engine's running smooth, and that annoying check engine light is finally off. The mechanic I found was really thorough, showed me the old damaged parts and explained everything clearly. The whole experience wasn't nearly as stressful as I thought it would be. Really appreciate your help in figuring this out. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on those hoses from now on. Going to stick with this mechanic too, such a relief to finally find someone trustworthy who knows their stuff with BMWs!
Hey there! I can relate to this as I experienced very similar issues with my 2019 BMW X3 last year. The symptoms you're describing match what I went through, poor performance, increased fuel consumption, and that dreaded check engine light. In my case, it turned out to be a significant vacuum leak from a cracked intake boot, not the manifold pressure sensor. The rubber had deteriorated and was causing false readings. The repair involved replacing the intake boot and a few connected hoses that had also worn out. It was a serious issue that needed immediate attention because it was affecting engine performance and could have led to more expensive problems if left unfixed. The engine was basically trying to compensate for the leak by adjusting the fuel mixture, which explained the higher fuel consumption. My advice would be to get it properly diagnosed before replacing any sensors. These symptoms can be tricky and might stem from various issues. Make sure whoever checks it uses proper diagnostic equipment for BMWs.
