BMW X1 Parking Heater Dies: Expert Help Needed

Parking heater no longer heats

|

Fault stored

Hi all! Need advice on my 2022 BMW X1 (gas engine, 97,609 km). My parking heater has completely stopped working, no activation possible and totally silent when I try. The diagnostic showed some error codes. After a sketchy experience with my previous mechanic, I'm hesitant about where to take it. Has anyone dealt with similar auxiliary heater issues on their X1? What was the fix, and can you recommend a reliable specialist for this problem? Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2019 BMW X3 last winter. The auxiliary heater completely died on me too, no response, no sounds, nothing. Initially, I thought it was just a fuse, but the diagnostic revealed a failed control module and damaged wiring harness. The fix wasn't exactly straightforward. My mechanic had to replace the entire control module and repair some corroded wiring. It was quite a serious job since they had to partially dismantle the dashboard to access everything properly. The whole repair took about two days to complete. What caught my attention in your case is that silent response, that's exactly what happened to mine. I'd strongly suggest getting it checked soon because these heater issues can sometimes indicate electrical problems that could affect other systems. If your diagnostic is showing error codes, don't wait too long to get it fixed. These auxiliary heater problems don't typically resolve themselves and can get worse over time. Best of luck with the repair.

Thanks for sharing your experience! That sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. Really helpful to know about the control module and wiring issues, makes total sense given the symptoms. Did you remember roughly how much the whole repair set you back? Also, have you had any other heating problems since getting it fixed? Just want to make sure I'm prepared for what's ahead.

Hey again! Great to hear back from you! Just wanted to update you, I recently got my X3's auxiliary heater fixed and it's working perfectly now. Turned out my issue was different from what I initially thought, it was actually a faulty glow plug that was causing all the trouble. The repair cost me 440€, which wasn't as bad as I expected considering I was worried it might be the control module. The best part? No heating problems whatsoever since the fix! The mechanic did a thorough job checking everything else while they were at it, and I'm really happy with how it all turned out. The heater kicks in immediately now, no more silent treatment when I try to start it up. I can totally understand your concern about the repair costs. I was pretty anxious about it too, but sometimes it's just one relatively simple component causing all the drama. If your symptoms are similar to what I had, it might be worth asking them to check the glow plug first before diving into more complex repairs. Let me know how it goes with yours!

Thanks for the detailed follow-up! Just got back from my mechanic visit today and wanted to share what happened. You won't believe it, turned out my issue was also a faulty glow plug! The mechanic ran a full diagnostic and spotted it right away. The whole experience wasn't nearly as bad as I feared. They fixed it within a few hours, and the cost was pretty reasonable, definitely better than what I was bracing myself for with a potential control module replacement. The heater's now working like a charm, starts up instantly with that familiar hum. Really appreciate your help in pushing me to get this checked out sooner rather than later. It's such a relief to have this sorted before the weather gets worse. Guess sometimes our car troubles aren't as complicated as we think they'll be! Thanks again for all your advice, it really helped me feel more confident about getting this fixed.

Let our mechanics help you!
