Thanks for sharing your experience! Very similar to what I'm dealing with. Sounds like the connector issue might be what's causing my headache too. Quick question, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the repair? And has everything been working fine since, or have you had any other electrical gremlins pop up?
Hey again! Just wanted to follow up, I actually got this sorted last week. The mechanic confirmed it was indeed a faulty connection in the light switch, just like I suspected from my earlier issue. The good news is that everything's working perfectly now, all my lights are responding normally and those annoying error messages are gone. The repair was pretty straightforward and cost me 95€, which covered fixing the cable and plug connection. Much better than having to replace the entire switch unit! The mechanic showed me where the connection had gone bad, and it was basically the same problem I described before with my X3. Since the repair, I haven't had any other electrical issues pop up. The controls are working smoothly, just like they should. It's such a relief not having to deal with those stuck low beams anymore! I'd definitely recommend getting it checked out sooner rather than later, these electrical gremlins can be a real pain if left unchecked, but they're usually pretty simple to fix once you find the right mechanic.
Thanks everyone for the helpful advice! Wanted to update you all on what happened with my BMW. Finally got it checked out at a different mechanic, turned out it wasn't as bad as I feared. The issue was actually a corroded wiring harness connection, just like some of you suggested. The repair was pretty simple and only cost me about 200 bucks in total. The mechanic was great, really took the time to show me what was wrong and fixed it right there while I waited. They cleaned up the connections and replaced a few damaged wires. All the lights are working perfectly now, no more stuck low beams or crazy control issues! Such a relief to have it sorted. The new mechanic was so much better than my last one, really knew their stuff when it came to BMW electrical systems. Definitely keeping their number for future repairs. Guess sometimes you just need to find the right mechanic for the job. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction with this one!
Had a similar issue with my 2016 BMW X3 last winter. The symptoms were exactly the same, stuck low beams and unresponsive controls. Turned out the light control module connector had corroded pins and loose wiring. The diagnosis revealed multiple error codes related to the lighting system. Initially thought it was just the switch, but the problem was more complex. The technician had to clean the connector pins, repair some damaged wires, and reseat the module. It wasn't a quick fix, but not a major repair either. After the repair, all lighting functions went back to normal. If you're experiencing these symptoms, I'd suggest having a BMW specialist check the control module connections first before replacing any parts. In my case, a full switch replacement wasn't necessary. It's not something you want to ignore though, as faulty lighting controls can become a safety issue.
