Hey, thanks for the detailed response! I'm experiencing the exact same symptoms on my X1 (104221 KM on the clock). The issue started abruptly while driving, everything just went dark. I'm getting error code 2FC5 from my diagnostic tool. The funny thing is, it happened right after my last service about three weeks ago. Really hope it's not going to cost me that much, but I know BMW repairs aren't exactly cheap. Did your mechanic mention any preventive measures to stop this from happening again?
Hey again! Yeah, I totally get your concern, especially with that timing after the service. When I had my 3 Series fixed (mine had about 98k on the clock when it happened), my mechanic actually mentioned that sometimes these issues can be triggered by voltage fluctuations during routine maintenance work. It's not common, but it happens. That error code you're getting (2FC5) is actually the same one I had! That's what made them check the MOST bus system in my car. One thing my mechanic did mention about prevention was to always make sure any electrical work is done with a proper battery maintainer connected. They also recommended avoiding quick disconnects of the battery without proper power-down procedures. In my case, they also applied a software update as part of the fix, which supposedly helps prevent future communication issues in the system. The whole repair took about two days, but most of that time was waiting for parts. Have you noticed any other electrical quirks before this happened? Like flickering displays or intermittent audio cuts? Just curious because I had a few warning signs before my system completely died, but I ignored them like an idiot!
Thanks this is super helpful! No, I didn't notice any warning signs before it died, it just went completely dark out of nowhere. You've actually made me feel a bit better knowing it's a known issue with a clear fix, even if it's going to hurt my wallet! Really interesting about the voltage fluctuations during maintenance, I'm definitely going to bring that up with my mechanic since it happened right after my service. I'll make sure they use a battery maintainer and do the software update too when they fix it. Guess I better start saving up for that repair bill! Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, it's given me a much better idea of what I'm dealing with. I'll let you know how it goes once I get it sorted. Wonder how many other BMW owners are dealing with the same headache!
Hi there! I have some experience working on BMWs and dealt with a similar issue on my 2013 BMW 3 Series. The symptoms were exactly the same, complete infotainment failure and those dreaded error codes. After taking it to my regular workshop, they diagnosed a faulty control unit in the MOST bus system. The repair wasn't cheap, set me back about 1000 Euro, but it fixed the problem completely. They had to replace the control unit and reprogram the system. Before jumping to solutions though, could you share what error codes you're getting? Also, did this happen suddenly or was it gradual? This info would help narrow down if we're dealing with the same issue. The X1 has a slightly different setup than my 3 Series, but the MOST bus system is pretty similar across the lineup from those years.
