Thanks for sharing your experience! Mine's at 180174 KM, just had its service last month. In my case, it started quite suddenly, was driving home from work when the display first flickered. The error codes I'm getting are related to the iDrive system (B7B9E1 and B7B9E3). I've tried disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes to reset the system, but no luck. Good to know about your 's loose connection fix, definitely hoping for something simple like that rather than a full display replacement! Did your mechanic check any other potential causes before replacing the unit? Just trying to get an idea of what to expect when I take it in.

Thanks for the follow-up! Yeah, when I had the issue with my X3, I was at around 165000 KM, so pretty close to your mileage. Those error codes you mentioned sound familiar, I had similar ones but can't remember the exact numbers now. Actually, before replacing my display unit, my mechanic did try a few other things first. He checked all the wiring connections to and from the iDrive system, tested the voltage output, and even tried updating the system software. He also inspected the fiber optic cables since those can sometimes cause these issues in BMWs. I tried the battery disconnect trick too, no luck either! After all the testing, the mechanic was pretty confident it was the display unit itself. Looking back, there were some signs I missed, like occasionally the screen would take longer to boot up in the mornings, and sometimes the touch response would be sluggish before it started flickering. Just a heads up, if it does turn out to be the display unit like mine, make sure they validate the new unit is compatible with your car's software version. My mechanic mentioned this can sometimes be an issue with newer BMWs. Keep us posted on what you find out! Hope it's something simple and not too expensive to fix.

Thanks so much for all this detailed info! It's really helpful to know what your mechanic checked before going straight to replacing the display unit. Actually, now that you mention it, I've noticed my screen has been taking longer to boot up lately too, I just didn't connect the dots until now. I've scheduled an appointment with my mechanic for next week. I'll make sure to mention everything we discussed, especially about checking the wiring connections and fiber optic cables first. Really appreciate the tip about the software compatibility too, definitely wouldn't have thought to ask about that. I'll update the thread once I find out what's causing my issues. Fingers crossed it's just a loose connection like your 's car! Either way, at least I'm going in better informed now. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience, it's been super helpful!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2015 BMW X3 last year. I have some experience working on cars, but electrical problems are definitely not my strong suit. My display was acting up exactly like yours, flickering and going dark out of nowhere. The audio would cut out too. After dealing with it for a week, I took it to my trusted workshop. Turned out the display unit itself was defective and needed replacement. The whole repair including parts and labor set me back about 725 Euro, but it fixed the problem completely. Before jumping to conclusions though, could you share what error codes you're getting? Also, did this start happening suddenly or gradually? This info would help confirm if you're dealing with the same issue I had. By the way, if it helps, my had similar symptoms on his BMW 3 Series, but in his case, it was just a loose connection that was much cheaper to fix. Better to get it checked out properly.
