Hey there! Thanks for sharing your experience. That's really helpful, I'm having the exact same problem with my X1 right now. It's good to know it might just be the ignition coils and spark plugs rather than something more serious like the engine mount I was worried about. Do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the repair? Also, have you had any other issues pop up since getting it fixed? Just trying to get an idea of what I'm in for and whether I should expect any follow-up problems. Really appreciate your help!
Hey again! Actually, I need to correct my previous response, turns out I was wrong about the ignition coils. I took my X3 to a BMW specialist, and they found it really was the engine mount that was causing all those vibrations. They fixed it, and the car's running smooth as silk now. The repair bill came to 95 € for fixing what turned out to be a faulty cable connection related to the engine mount. Much cheaper than I expected, honestly! Since getting it sorted, I haven't had any issues at all, no more vibrations, weird noises, or error codes. The idle is perfect now too. If you're still experiencing those symptoms, I'd definitely recommend getting it checked out soon. Mine could've gotten worse if I'd left it longer. A proper diagnosis is worth its weight in gold, saved me from replacing parts that didn't need replacing. Let me know how you get on with yours!
Thanks for the update about your repair! I actually just got back from a new mechanic I found, and you won't believe it, my issue turned out to be different from both our initial guesses. The problem was a clogged fuel injector that needed cleaning and some worn-out vacuum hoses. The mechanic was great, really took the time to show me what was wrong. The total cost came to about double what you paid, but honestly, it was worth every penny. The car's running perfectly now, no more shaking or weird noises. It's such a relief to have it fixed properly. Amazing how the same symptoms can have such different causes! I'm really glad I asked for advice here and found a better mechanic. Good thing I didn't just assume it was the engine mount and stick with my old mechanic, could've ended up paying for unnecessary repairs. Thanks again for all your help and for sharing your experience!
I had very similar issues with my 2020 BMW X3 last month. The symptoms you're describing, rough idle and vibrations, match exactly what I experienced. Turned out it wasn't the engine mount at all. My mechanic found that the ignition coils were failing and one spark plug was completely worn out. They also discovered a loose connection in the wiring harness that was causing the error code. They had to replace two ignition coils and all spark plugs to be safe. It was a straightforward fix, just needed the right diagnosis. It wasn't a major repair, but ignoring it could have led to bigger problems with the engine performance over time. If you're not comfortable with your current mechanic, I'd suggest finding one who specializes in BMW. These symptoms are pretty common in our engines and a specialist will spot the issue quickly.
