BMW X1 Emergency Call System Issues, Battery Problem?

Emergency system without function

Hey everyone! Having some concerns with my 2017 BMW X1 (gas engine). The car's error log shows issues with the emergency call system, no warning messages appear, but the emergency call time is shorter than usual. I suspect it might be related to a drained emergency call battery. Has anyone dealt with similar emergency call system problems? What did your workshop find and how was it resolved? Looking forward to hearing about your experiences and any advice you can share. Thanks!

Hi there! I had a similar issue with my 2015 BMW X3 last year. I have some basic car maintenance experience, but I usually leave the complex stuff to professionals. When my emergency call system started acting up, I took it to my regular workshop. They diagnosed it as a completely discharged emergency battery, just as you suspected. The repair was straightforward, they replaced the emergency battery unit, and it cost me around 110 Euro. Everything's been working perfectly since then. I'd recommend getting it checked soon because the emergency call system is a crucial safety feature. Before I can provide more specific advice, could you share: How long has this been happening? Have you noticed any other electrical issues? Has your X1 had any recent battery-related work done? Hope this helps! Let me know those details and I might be able to share more from my experience with my X3.

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! I've had mine for quite a while now (186863 KM on the clock), and this issue just started about two weeks ago. No other electrical problems so far, and my last service was actually three months ago where they did a thorough check-up, but the emergency battery wasn't part of the inspection. Just scheduled an appointment with my mechanic for next week. It's good to know the fix was straightforward in your case, definitely gives me some peace of mind! I'll make sure they specifically check the emergency battery unit when I take it in. Thanks again for the helpful info. Pretty sure we're dealing with the same issue here.

Hey again! Glad to help! Yeah, after reading about your mileage and timing, it sounds exactly like what I experienced with my X3. These emergency batteries typically last around 3-4 years, so with your mileage, it's actually right on schedule for a replacement. In my case, I also had a recent service before the issue popped up, and they hadn't checked the emergency battery either. It's not usually part of the standard service checklist, which is kind of a bummer. After my experience, I specifically ask them to check it during annual inspections now. Just a heads up, when they replace the battery unit in your X1, make sure they register/code it properly in the system. My mechanic mentioned this is crucial for these BMWs. After my replacement, they had to do a quick system reset to get everything talking properly again. Keep us posted about what they find next week! I'm pretty confident it'll be the same straightforward fix I had. My X3's emergency system has been working flawlessly since the replacement, it's been about 15 months now.

Thanks so much for the extra details and tips! I really appreciate you mentioning the coding part, I'll definitely bring that up with my mechanic to make sure they don't skip that step. It's actually quite reassuring to hear that your X3's system has been working perfectly since the fix. I totally get what you mean about adding the emergency battery check to regular inspections. I'll start doing the same thing moving forward. It's better to catch these issues during routine maintenance rather than waiting for problems to pop up. I'll update the thread next week after my appointment, but I'm feeling much more confident now knowing what to expect. Your experience has been super helpful in understanding what I'm dealing with. I was a bit worried at first, but it seems like it's just routine maintenance that needs to be done. Thanks again for taking the time to share all this information. It's exactly what I needed to hear!
