Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! Just wanted to add that I'm having this exact issue on my X1 with 33500 KM. Symptoms appeared pretty suddenly after my latest service, which is making me wonder if something got messed up during maintenance. Haven't scanned for codes yet, but your insight about the steering angle sensor seems spot-on with what I'm experiencing. Definitely feels like it could be a coding issue rather than a mechanical one, especially since everything was fine before the service. Did your mechanic mention any other potential causes they ruled out before fixing the sensor? Just trying to get an idea of what to expect when I take it in. Also good to know it was a relatively quick fix in your case!

Hey again! Yeah, looking back at my X3's situation, it's interesting you mention this started after a service. When I took mine in, my mechanic actually told me that these issues can sometimes pop up after routine maintenance if the battery gets disconnected or if there's any electrical interruption during the service. In my case, they did check a few other things before zeroing in on the steering angle sensor. They looked at: The power steering pump (which was fine), The steering rack connections, The wheel alignment (just to be thorough) But honestly, given how similar your symptoms are to what I experienced, and especially since it started right after service, I'm pretty confident it's the same sensor coding issue. These BMWs are pretty sensitive when it comes to their electronics. Quick tip though, if you haven't already, make sure to document when these symptoms started (right after the service) and maybe even take a video of all those warning lights. Could help if you need to discuss this with the service center that did your maintenance. Let me know how it goes when you get it checked out. I'm curious if it'll be the same fix as mine!

Thanks so much for all this detailed info! Actually, I just got back from the dealer and you were absolutely right, it was indeed the steering angle sensor that needed recoding. They confirmed it was likely triggered by the battery disconnect during my last service. The total bill came to about 180 for diagnostics and recoding, pretty close to what you paid. They also did a quick check of the power steering and alignment just to be safe, but everything else checked out fine. Really glad I didn't need any major mechanical repairs! Definitely learned something new about these BMWs today, they're amazing cars but super sensitive to any electrical interruptions. I'll be sure to mention this possibility next time I take it in for regular service. Thanks again for helping me understand what I was dealing with. Having your experience to reference really made me feel more confident when talking to the service team!

Hey there! I had similar issues with my 2016 BMW X3 last year. Being someone with some experience working on cars (mostly basic maintenance), these symptoms immediately rang a bell. My car showed the exact same warning lights, and the steering got super heavy out of nowhere. After trying to diagnose it myself, I gave up and took it to my regular workshop. Turned out the steering angle sensor's coding was corrupted, pretty much exactly what you're suspecting. The fix wasn't too complicated, but it needed special diagnostic equipment. Cost me 195 Euro for the recoding and diagnostics. The whole thing took about 2 hours, and it's been working perfectly since then. Before I can give you more specific advice, could you share: Have you scanned for error codes? Did these symptoms appear suddenly or gradually? Have you had any recent work done on the suspension or steering?
