Spongy/unresponsive brakes

Thanks for the detailed response! My X1 has 16815 KM on the clock, and I just had it serviced last month. No squealing or grinding noises, just that weird pedal feel and those warnings. I'll definitely take it to get checked out based on your experience, don't want to mess around with brake issues. Appreciate you sharing what happened with your X3, gives me a good starting point for what to expect.
Hey again! Thanks for sharing those details about your X1. You know what's interesting, with such low mileage and recent service, your issue might actually be different from what I experienced with my X3. My brake problems showed up around 65,000 KM, which makes sense for wear and tear. Since you've just had it serviced and aren't hearing any nasty noises, I'm actually leaning back toward my first thought, it could indeed be a brake fluid issue. Sometimes air can get into the brake lines even with normal fluid levels, which would explain that weird pedal feel you're describing. That's something the service might not have caught during routine maintenance. I'd suggest getting it checked soon though. When I ignored my brake warning for a week (not my smartest move!), it ended up causing more problems. My mechanic told me any brake warning should be looked at within a few days max. Let us know what you find out, would be really helpful for other X1 owners who might run into the same thing. And hey, hopefully it's something simpler than my worn-out pads and rotors situation!
Thanks for the follow-up! You make a really good point about the mileage difference, definitely gives me a different perspective on what might be wrong. I've already called my workshop and booked it in for tomorrow morning. You're absolutely right about not waiting around with brake issues. The air in the brake lines theory makes a lot more sense given my car's age and mileage. Really hoping it's just that and not something more serious. I'll definitely update this thread once I find out what's causing it. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience and advice, it's helped calm my nerves about the whole situation!
Hey there! I have some experience working on cars and went through something similar with my 2015 BMW X3. The symptoms were exactly as you described, warning light, message, and that strange feeling in the brake pedal. Initially, I also thought it was just low brake fluid, but my workshop found that the brake pads and rotors were seriously worn out. Had to get them replaced, which set me back about 480 Euro, but totally worth it for safety. Could you share the mileage on your X1? Also, when was the last time you had your brakes checked? That info would help determine if your issue matches what I experienced. If you hear any squealing or grinding when braking, definitely get it checked ASAP. Better safe than sorry with brakes!
