Thanks for sharing your experience! Mine's at 80917 KM and had its last service about 3 months ago. Actually, I did notice a slight rattling sound from the front of the car about a week before the AC died, but didn't think much of it at the time. When I turn it on now, there's no compressor sound at all, just dead silence. Pretty concerning since the temperatures are getting higher these days. Sounds like my issue might be similar to what you faced. Really helpful to know about the potential valve problem and cost estimate. Will get it checked asap. Hope it's not something more serious than that!

Hey there! Thanks for those extra details about your X1. You know what? That rattling sound you mentioned actually rings a bell, I had the exact same thing with my X3 before it completely gave up! When you said there's no compressor sound now, that's exactly what happened with mine too. It went from rattling to total silence. After having gone through this myself, I'm pretty confident it's related to those valve issues I mentioned earlier. In my case, the rattling was actually a warning sign of the valves starting to fail. When they completely went, that's when my compressor stopped engaging, just like what you're experiencing now. Since you're at 80K km, it's actually quite a common timing for these issues to pop up. Mine was around 85K when it happened. One thing I learned though, don't wait too long to get it fixed. I drove mine for about a week after noticing the issues and ended up with a slightly higher repair bill because the compressor got a bit damaged. Tell you what, when you take it in, make sure to mention the rattling sound to the mechanic. That detail helped them diagnose my problem faster. Keep me posted on what they find, really curious to know if it's the same issue I had!

Thanks so much for the detailed response! That's really eye-opening about the rattling being a warning sign, wish I'd known that earlier! It's pretty wild how similar our situations are, even down to the mileage when it happened. I've already called the workshop and booked it in for tomorrow morning. Definitely mentioned the rattling sound like you suggested. Really don't want to risk any extra damage to the compressor. You've been super helpful with all this info, knowing what to expect both problem and cost-wise makes me feel much better about the whole situation. I'll definitely update you once I get the diagnosis. Fingers crossed it's just those valves and nothing more serious! Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience. It's made this whole AC disaster a lot less stressful to deal with.

Hey! I have some experience working on cars. Had a similar issue with my 2012 BMW X3 last summer. The AC completely died, super frustrating! Took it to my regular workshop and they diagnosed faulty valve units in the AC system. The repair involved replacing several valves and doing a complete system recharge. Cost me around 1000 Euro, but it's been working perfectly since then. Mind sharing if you've noticed any unusual sounds before the AC stopped working? Also, can you still hear the compressor engaging when you turn the AC on? This info would help determine if you're facing the same problem I had. I'd definitely recommend getting it checked soon, driving without AC isn't fun, and waiting could potentially lead to more damage. Let me know these details and I can share more about what to expect at the workshop.
