Wipers don't work properly

Hey again! Glad to give you an update on my wiper situation. After taking it to the mechanic, it turned out to be exactly what I suspected, a faulty wiper relay. They found a messed up cable connection that was causing all the trouble. The fix was pretty straightforward and cost me 95€, which wasn't too bad considering all the worry it caused me! Since getting it sorted, the wipers have been working like a charm, no more issues whatsoever. And nope, haven't spotted any other electrical gremlins either. The whole system's running smoothly now. I've gotta say, it's such a relief not having to worry about getting caught in rain with dead wipers anymore! Just make sure you get yours checked out soon, these electrical issues can be a real pain if you let them drag on. Let me know how it goes with yours when you get it fixed!
Thanks so much for the detailed follow-up! Actually, I bit the bullet and took it to the mechanic yesterday. The final verdict was pretty different from what we initially thought, turned out to be a faulty wiper motor control module. Cost me a bit more than your repair, around 200 bucks with labor, but at least it's sorted now. The mechanic I found was actually really great, took the time to show me exactly what was wrong and explained everything clearly. Such a refreshing change from my last experience! They even cleaned up some corrosion they found while they were at it, no extra charge. Been testing the wipers since then and they're working perfectly, both speeds and the auto function are back to normal. The error code's gone too. Really appreciate your help in pushing me to get it checked out quickly. Nothing worse than driving around with dodgy wipers!
Had the same issue on my '07 BMW 5 Series Diesel last month. Initially thought it was just a blown fuse, but turned out the wiper motor connector had corroded pretty badly. The symptoms were identical, no response from either manual or auto settings. Took it to my mechanic who found that moisture had gotten into the wiper motor connection, causing the corrosion. They had to clean the connector pins and replace some damaged wiring near the motor. It was a serious electrical issue that could've led to more problems if left unfixed. Since the repair, wipers have been working perfectly. Given your symptoms and mileage, I'd bet on either the motor connection or the motor itself. Best get it checked soon, especially if you're getting error codes. These electrical gremlins don't fix themselves and usually get worse with time. Hope this helps with your diagnosis.
