BMW Window Failure Leaves Owner Seeking Repair Guidance

Hey all! Need some advice with my 2022 BMW 6. The power windows stopped working completely and there's an error code showing up. I think it might be related to the window regulator system. Had a pretty bad experience with my previous mechanic, so I'm hesitant about where to take it. Car details: 2022 BMW 6, Gasoline engine, 41,679 KM Has anyone dealt with similar window issues? What was the actual problem and how much did the repair cost? Also, would appreciate recommendations on how to find a trustworthy mechanic. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2019 BMW 4 Series last month. The power windows stopped working, and I initially thought it was the window regulator too. Turned out it was actually a drained battery causing electrical system failures. The battery wasn't holding charge properly anymore and needed replacement. The symptoms were pretty much identical to yours, complete power window failure and error codes on the dash. When I took it to the garage, they ran a diagnostic test and found that the battery voltage was significantly low. The old battery was also the original one from when the car was new. The fix wasn't particularly complex, but it had to be done by someone who knows BMW's electrical systems because these cars need proper battery registration after replacement. They also had to reset several electrical components and clear the error codes. Not a super serious issue, but definitely something you want to address soon to avoid getting stranded somewhere. If it's not the battery, then yes, it could be the window regulator system, but I'd check the battery first since it's the most common cause of electrical issues like this. Hope this helps!

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful to know about the battery being the culprit in your case. Been dealing with these symptoms for a week now and your situation sounds exactly like mine. Do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole thing? Also, has everything been working fine since the fix, or have you noticed any other electrical quirks popping up?

Hey again! Yeah, glad I could help! After my last post, I actually took it to the mechanic and got everything sorted out. The battery replacement set me back 290 € but it was totally worth it. They had to do the whole battery registration thing and reset all those electrical systems I mentioned before, including that annoying "Window regulator initialization unsuccessful" error that was driving me nuts. Everything's been running perfectly smooth since then, windows go up and down like a charm, no more error messages on the dash, and all the other electrical stuff is working just as it should. It's like having a new car again! Looking back, I was pretty worried it might've been something more serious (and expensive), but the battery ended up being the root cause of all those issues. Just make sure whoever does the work knows their way around BMW's electrical systems, these cars can be pretty finicky about battery changes. Let me know how it goes with yours! Pretty sure you're dealing with the same thing I was.

Thanks everyone for the input! Wanted to give you all a quick update on my situation. Finally got my car checked out yesterday. You were right, it turned out to be the battery causing all those electrical issues! The mechanic I found was actually great. I picked one specializing in European cars after doing some research online. He ran a full diagnostic test first thing and spotted the battery problem right away. The whole thing, new battery, registration, and system reset, cost me around 300 bucks. Not too bad considering I was worried it might be something way more expensive! The best part? All the windows are working perfectly now, and those annoying error codes are gone. The mechanic also checked the rest of the electrical system just to be safe, and everything's running smoothly. Really relieved it wasn't anything more serious. Thanks again for steering me in the right direction. Sometimes it's the simple things that cause the biggest headaches! At least now I know I've got a reliable mechanic for future issues too.
