Thanks for sharing your experience. I went through something very similar with my BMW last year. This definitely sounds like what I dealt with too. Would you mind sharing how much the repairs set you back? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other issues pop up? Just want to get an idea of what I might be looking at cost-wise and if this tends to be a one-off problem or something that comes back.
Hey there! Happy to give you an update on my BMW 5 Series situation. After getting it fixed, I'm glad to say it's been running like a dream, no more warning lights or issues whatsoever. The oil contamination problem was completely sorted out by the mechanic. The total bill came to 165 € for fixing the maintenance interval issue, which honestly wasn't as bad as I was expecting given how worried I was about those warning lights. They did a thorough job with the oil system flush and replaced all the necessary parts. It's been about 8 months now since the repair, and I've had zero problems. The engine's running super smooth, and I'm being much more careful about sticking to the maintenance schedule this time around. Learned my lesson about letting those oil changes slide! Just make sure you get it checked out soon, putting it off only risks more expensive problems down the road. Hope this helps give you a better idea of what you're looking at. Let me know if you need any other info!
Thanks for the detailed follow-up! I actually just got back from the mechanic today. You were totally right about getting it checked quickly. Turns out my issue was pretty similar, had a faulty oil pressure sensor and some buildup in the system. The mechanic did a complete flush, replaced the sensor, and sorted out all the filters. Cost me around 200 for everything, which wasn't as terrible as I'd feared. The whole experience was way better than my last mechanic. These guys really knew their BMWs and explained everything they were doing. They even showed me the old sensor and pointed out what was wrong with it. Really appreciated their transparency. Car's running perfectly now, all warning lights are gone and it feels much smoother when driving. Thanks again for the advice, it definitely helped me make the right decision to get it checked out promptly rather than waiting. I'll be sure to stick to regular maintenance from now on!
I had a similar issue with my 2018 BMW 5 Series diesel. The warning lights started popping up when I was about 2,000 km overdue for maintenance. Took it to a garage and turned out it wasn't just dirty oil, the oil pressure sensor was failing and there was some sludge buildup in the engine due to extended oil change intervals. They had to do a complete oil system flush, replace the sensor, and change all filters. It was a serious issue that could've led to engine damage if left unchecked. Not to scare you, but those warning lights shouldn't be ignored. In my case, the speedometer warning was actually related to the car going into limp mode because of the oil pressure problems. Best to get it checked soon, these symptoms usually don't fix themselves. Hope this helps with your decision making. Let us know what you find out.
