BMW Tire Sensor Nightmare: Seeking Real Fix & Fair Price

Hey all! Having some trouble with my 2022 BMW 2 Series (diesel, 154,706 km). Getting persistent low tire pressure warnings and error messages on the dash, even though I've checked the tires. Error code is stored in the system. Pretty sure it's a faulty tire pressure sensor, but my last mechanic visit was a nightmare. Has anyone dealt with similar sensor issues on their BMW? What was the actual problem and how much did repairs cost? Looking for recommendations on getting this fixed without getting ripped off again. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2019 BMW 3 Series diesel last month. The TPMS warnings kept popping up despite proper tire pressure. After scanning, it turned out one of the tire pressure sensors had a dead battery. These sensors typically last 5-7 years before needing replacement. My mechanic found that moisture had gotten into the sensor housing, causing premature battery drain. It wasn't a major repair, just needed a new sensor programmed to the car's system. Not something you want to ignore though, as accurate tire pressure monitoring is important for safety and fuel efficiency. If you've got high mileage like that, it's pretty common for these sensors to start failing. I'd suggest having all four checked since they're likely the same age. When they changed mine, the diagnostic showed two others were getting weak too. Hope this helps narrow down your issue, definitely get it checked by a BMW specialist rather than a general shop. Best of luck with the repair.

Thanks for sharing your experience! That's exactly what I suspected with my car, sounds like I'm dealing with the same sensor issue. Just wondering, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the repair? Also, have you had any other sensor problems pop up since getting it fixed?

Hey again! Yes, I can actually tell you the exact cost now, it was 280 € to fix my TPMS sensor issue. The good news? Since getting it fixed by the mechanic, everything's been working perfectly. No more annoying warning lights or false alarms about tire pressure. The battery replacement was definitely worth it, and I'm really glad I got it sorted. I was a bit worried at first about potential recurring issues, but it's been smooth sailing since the repair. The mechanic did a proper job programming the new sensor to work with the car's system. Just to put your mind at ease, I haven't had any other sensor problems pop up at all. The car's running like a charm now. If you're experiencing similar symptoms, I'd say go ahead and get it checked. It's one of those repairs that's straightforward once you know what's causing it. Let me know how it goes when you get yours fixed!

Thanks for the detailed follow-up! I actually just got back from the mechanic today, and you won't believe it, my experience was totally different from my last nightmare repair. Found a really honest mechanic who diagnosed the problem right away. Turns out two of my sensors were completely dead, just like you mentioned might happen. Got them both replaced and programmed, cost me a bit more than yours since I needed multiple sensors, but still way less than I feared. The mechanic even showed me the old sensors and explained exactly what went wrong. The best part? No more annoying warning lights on my dash! Car's running perfectly now. Really appreciate you sharing your experience, helped me know what to expect and gave me confidence to get it sorted properly this time. Thanks again for all your help!
