BMW Tire Sensor Nightmare: Dashboard Lit Like Christmas

Tire pressure to low

Error message in the speedometer

Hi everyone! Need some advice about my 2004 BMW 1 (gasoline, 12,954 KM). Had a not-so-great experience at my last mechanic visit, and now I'm seeing low tire pressure warnings, plus error messages on the dashboard. The error memory shows there's something stored. I suspect it might be the tire pressure sensors acting up. Has anyone dealt with similar issues? Would appreciate hearing about your experiences and recommendations for getting this fixed properly. Thanks!

Hey there! I've got a 2007 BMW 3 Series and faced similar issues last month. The tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) sensors in my car started showing unusual warnings too. After a diagnostic scan, it turned out the sensor batteries were dead, they typically last 5-10 years before needing replacement. Had to get all four TPMS sensors replaced since they were from the original set. It wasn't a major mechanical issue, just an electronic one that affects safety monitoring. The car drives fine without working sensors, but you won't get accurate tire pressure readings. My suggestion: Get a proper diagnostic scan at a reputable shop. They can tell you if it's just dead sensor batteries or if there's an actual tire pressure problem. Better safe than sorry with these warning lights. Hope this helps.

Thanks for sharing your experience! That's exactly what I was worried about with my sensors. Glad to hear it wasn't anything too serious in your case. Quick question, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the sensor replacements? Also, has everything been working properly since the fix, or have you noticed any other quirks?

Hey again! Good news, I got my BMW fixed and it's running like a charm now! The tire pressure monitoring is working perfectly since the repair last week. Like I mentioned before, it was just those pesky sensor batteries that died on me. The total came to 280 € for the fix. Not exactly cheap, but at least it wasn't something more serious. The mechanic said these sensor issues are pretty common in BMWs of our age, so I guess we're not alone! Haven't noticed any other weird stuff since the repair, all warning lights are off and the tire pressure readings are spot on now. Just a heads up though, the mechanic mentioned these sensors typically need replacement every 5-10 years, so it's something to keep in mind for future maintenance. Honestly, it's such a relief not having those annoying warning messages pop up on the dashboard anymore. Money well spent in my opinion! Let me know if you need any other info about the repair. Always happy to help out a fellow BMW owner!

Thanks so much for all the detailed info! I actually just got back from the mechanic today and you were spot on, it was the TPMS sensors giving me trouble. My repair bill came in a bit higher at 350 € since they found one of my wheel modules was completely dead. The mechanic was really thorough and showed me exactly what was wrong. He even gave me a demonstration of how the new sensors work with their diagnostic tool. Pretty cool stuff! Got everything replaced and calibrated, and now my dashboard is finally clear of those annoying warning lights. Funny thing is, while I was there, another BMW owner came in with the exact same issue. Guess these sensors really are a common problem in our models. At least now I know what to expect for future maintenance. Really appreciate everyone's help with this. It's such a relief to have it sorted out properly. Time to enjoy some warning-free driving!
