Thanks so much for sharing your experience! This definitely sounds similar to what I'm dealing with. Really helpful to know about the motor assembly and tracks issue. Do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole repair? Also, has everything been working smoothly since they fixed it, or have you noticed any other problems popping up?
Hey again! Happy to give you an update! After my repair last month, I can tell you it cost me exactly 330 € to fix the sunblind motor. The mechanic did a great job, it's been working perfectly since then, no more error codes or sticking issues. Money well spent, if you ask me! Every time I use it now, it moves smoothly without any problems. Such a relief not having to deal with that annoying sticking problem anymore. The tracks are super clean now too, which probably helps keep everything running smoothly. I was worried at first about spending that much, but considering how often I use the sunblind and how annoying it was when it didn't work properly, it was totally worth it. Plus, getting it fixed probably prevented more expensive damage down the line. If your issue is similar to what mine was, I'd definitely recommend getting it sorted. Better to fix it now than wait for it to completely fail! Let me know if you need any other info about the repair. Happy to help!
Thanks again for all the details! I finally got my car checked out by a new mechanic I found. You were spot on, it was the motor assembly and some debris in the tracks causing the problem. The repair cost me a bit more, around 400 €, but they did a thorough job. They cleaned out all the tracks and replaced both the motor and some worn wiring. It took them about 6 hours to complete everything, but wow, what a difference! The sunblind moves perfectly now, and those annoying error codes are gone. They also showed me all the old parts and explained what went wrong, which I really appreciated. Definitely glad I didn't wait any longer to get it fixed. The mechanic mentioned the same thing about preventing bigger issues down the line. They also gave the mechanism a good lubrication, so hopefully, this fix will last a good while. Thanks again for helping me understand what I was dealing with. Your advice really helped me make the right decision!
Hey there! I had the exact same issue with my 2005 BMW 325i (also gasoline). The sunblind motor was failing, it would get stuck mid-way and throw error codes. Got it checked at my garage last month. The problem turned out to be more serious than expected. The entire motor assembly had seized up due to worn-out gears and needed replacement. Some electrical connectors were also damaged from the motor's strain. The mechanic had to remove the whole headliner to access and replace the motor unit. They found that debris in the tracks was making things worse too. The repair included cleaning the tracks, replacing the motor, and recalibrating the system. It wasn't a quick fix, took them most of a day to sort it out properly. Just for reference, these motors typically last about 10-15 years with regular use, so it's a common issue with cars of this age. You might want to get it checked soon before it completely fails. Hope this helps with your decision.
