BMW Navigation Dead, Multiple Electric System Faults

Navigationssystem is not working

General electrical malfunction

Hey everyone, my 2017 BMW 2 diesel is acting really strange lately. The navigation system is completely dead with a frozen screen, and multiple warning lights keep popping up on the dashboard. The error log shows electrical system faults. I suspect it might be a software issue, but I'm not entirely sure. Has anyone experienced similar symptoms with their BMW? What was the fix, and how did your workshop handle it? Looking forward to hearing about your experiences.

Hey there! I have some experience with cars and had a very similar issue with my 2015 BMW 3 series diesel. Honestly, it was super frustrating! The same symptoms, frozen display, unusual warning lights, the whole electrical drama. Took it to my regular workshop and it turned out to be a control unit programming issue. They had to reprogram the entire unit, cost me about 240 Euro, but it fixed everything. Which engine variant do you have in your 2 series? Also, have you noticed any other electrical glitches before this happened? This info would help me share more relevant details from my experience. Trust me, it's better to get it checked ASAP. These electrical gremlins can be quite tricky if left unchecked.

Thanks for sharing your experience! My car has been serviced regularly (last service was at 66751 KM), and I haven't noticed any electrical issues before this. Mine is the diesel variant, and yeah, those unusual warning lights are driving me crazy! I've actually tried the basic stuff like disconnecting the battery for a reset, but no luck. Your experience with the control unit reprogramming sounds exactly like what might be happening with mine. Did your warning lights appear gradually or all at once? That's really helpful to know about the cost too, at least I can budget for it now. Before I take it to the workshop, did they need to keep your car for long? Just trying to plan around it. Really appreciate your help with this!

Hey again! Yeah, I totally get what you're going through, it's such a pain when these high-tech cars start acting up! In my case, the warning lights actually started popping up gradually over about a week. First, it was just the navigation acting weird, then boom, the whole dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree! It was pretty much identical to what you're describing. About the workshop time, they actually needed my car for two days, but that's mainly because they had to order some specific software update from BMW. The actual reprogramming only took about 4-5 hours. But honestly, it was worth the wait because it solved all the issues completely. And yeah, I tried the battery disconnect trick too before taking it in! Funny how we all try that first, right? But these newer BMWs are too smart for such simple fixes, they really need proper diagnostic tools and programming. Just a heads up, make sure your workshop has the right BMW diagnostic equipment. My first mechanic couldn't handle it because they didn't have the specific programming tools. That's why I ended up at a specialized workshop. Keep me posted on how it goes! I'm really curious if your issue turns out to be the same as mine.

Thanks so much for all the detailed info! It's actually really reassuring to hear that someone else went through the exact same thing. The fact that your warning lights also started appearing gradually makes me feel better, mine started about a week ago too. Good call about the specialized workshop! I'll definitely make sure to check if they have the proper BMW diagnostic equipment before taking it in. I hadn't even thought about that aspect. I'll probably need to call around a bit to find the right place. I can manage without the car for a couple of days, so that's not a big deal. And honestly, knowing it'll likely cost around 240 for the fix is way better than what I was imagining, I was worried it might be something major with the electrical system! I'll definitely keep you updated once I get it sorted. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. It's made me feel a lot more confident about getting this fixed!
