Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful to know about the GPS antenna being the culprit. Do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the repair? Also, has everything stayed working properly since then, or have you noticed any other navigation quirks popping up? I'm planning to get mine checked next week, just trying to get an idea of what I might be looking at cost-wise. Thanks!
Hey again! Yep, happy to help! I actually just dug out the invoice, the whole repair set me back 200 € which covered both parts and labor. I'd say it was money well spent because the nav system has been working like a charm ever since. Seriously, not a single problem after they fixed the antenna. The signal's strong and route calculations are super quick now, it's like having a brand new system. I remember being pretty worried about potential costs too before I got it fixed, but it turned out to be a pretty straightforward repair. And honestly, it's such a relief not having to deal with that frustrating GPS signal loss anymore! I reckon you're making the right call getting it checked out next week. The mechanics should be able to confirm if it's the same issue pretty quickly. Let us know how it goes!
Thanks! Your info really helped me take the plunge. Just got back from the mechanic actually, and you were spot on! Took it in yesterday and turns out it was exactly the same issue, faulty GPS antenna with water damage. Bill came to around 230, bit more than yours but still reasonable. The mechanic was really honest, showed me the corroded parts and everything. Best part? The nav's working perfectly now! Just did a test drive and the signal's strong, routes load super fast, and that annoying error code is gone. Such a relief after dealing with those GPS issues for weeks. Really appreciate you sharing your experience, definitely helped me avoid getting ripped off or stressing too much about it. Thanks again for all the help!
Hey there! I faced almost identical issues with my 2005 BMW 3 Series Diesel last year. The symptoms were exactly like yours, no GPS signal and sluggish route calculations. Initially thought it was a software glitch, but the mechanics found the GPS antenna was failing. Had it checked at my usual garage, and they confirmed the antenna was defective. The housing had developed tiny cracks letting moisture in, which corroded the connections. They had to replace the entire GPS antenna unit. It wasn't a complex repair, took about two hours including testing. Just to give you peace of mind, this isn't a serious mechanical issue, just an electronic component that needs replacing. The navigation system works flawlessly since the repair, no problems at all for the past 8 months. Get it checked soon though, driving without proper navigation can be frustrating, especially if you rely on it regularly.
