BMW M4 TPMS Sensor Problems & Warning Light Issues

Tire pressure to low

Error message in the speedometer

Hey everyone! My 2018 BMW M4 is acting up. Getting constant low tire pressure warnings, along with error messages on the dash display. Scanned the car and found stored errors pointing towards tire pressure sensor issues. Has anyone dealt with similar sensor problems? What did your mechanic find and how was it resolved? Looking for some real-world experience before heading to the workshop. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I have some experience with cars and had almost the exact same issue on my 2016 BMW M3 last year. Those TPMS sensors can be really annoying! I took it to my trusted workshop where they diagnosed that the sensor batteries were completely drained. They had to replace all four sensors, and it set me back about 280 Euro, but it fixed the problem completely. Haven't seen any warning lights since then. The symptoms were identical to what you're describing, constant warnings and error messages. Just to help you better, could you tell us: Have you noticed any specific tire losing pressure? When was the last time your TPMS sensors were serviced? Are the warnings constant or do they come and go? Also had similar issues with my 's M5, so it seems pretty common with these models. Let me know those details, and I might be able to share more specific insights!

Thanks for sharing your experience! Just got mine serviced last month at 87306 KM, and I've been monitoring this issue closely. Actually, I haven't noticed any actual pressure loss in the tires, they all maintain proper PSI when I check manually. The warnings are pretty unusual and seem to pop up mostly after cold starts, but the tires themselves appear totally fine. Been keeping a close eye on it since these sensors can be tricky. Sounds like I might be heading down the same path as you with needing new sensors. Really appreciate the heads up about the potential cost too, helps me plan ahead. Did your workshop mention anything about the typical lifespan of these sensors?

Hey again! Yeah, what you're describing sounds exactly like what I experienced! Those unusual warnings after cold starts were driving me crazy too. And just like you, my tire pressure readings were fine when I checked manually. It's so typical of these sensors to act up this way. My workshop guy actually explained that these TPMS sensors typically last about 5-7 years before the batteries die. Since your M4 is a 2018, you're right in that timeframe where they might need replacing. In my M3, they started acting up just after the 5-year mark. One thing I learned from my experience, don't wait too long once these symptoms start. I tried to "live with it" for a couple of months, thinking it wasn't a big deal since the actual tire pressure was fine. But it got really annoying, and my mechanic said it's better to replace them before they completely fail, as you might miss actual tire pressure problems. Quick tip: when you get them replaced, make sure they sync the new sensors properly with your car's computer system. My first attempt at replacement had some issues because they didn't program them correctly. Had to go back, but thankfully they fixed it under warranty. Let me know how it goes if you get them replaced! Always good to compare notes on these things.

Thanks so much for all this detailed feedback! This definitely makes me feel better about the situation. I'll go ahead and schedule an appointment with my workshop for next week to get these sensors checked out and probably replaced. Better to deal with it now than keep getting those annoying warnings, especially since my car's age matches up with what you mentioned about the 5-7 year lifespan. Really appreciate you sharing the tip about making sure they sync everything properly too, I'll definitely bring that up when I take it in. Good to know what to expect and what to watch out for. It's always reassuring to hear from someone who's already dealt with the same issue. Will update once I get it sorted! Thanks again for taking the time to help me out with this.
