Thanks for sharing your experience! My M4 is still relatively new with just 40240 KM on the odometer and had its latest service about two months ago. I'm getting error code P2463, and honestly, haven't noticed any fuel consumption changes or weird sounds. It just stopped working out of nowhere last week. Good to know about the glow plug issue you had, that gives me a starting point at least. Did your heater also just suddenly stop, or was it gradually getting worse? I'm hoping it's something similarly straightforward and not a major system failure. By the way, how long did you have to wait for the parts to arrive at your workshop? Just trying to plan ahead in case I need to book it in.
Hey again! Thanks for the follow-up. Yeah, my heater actually died pretty suddenly too, just like yours, no warning signs. One day it was working fine, the next... nothing. The error code you're getting (P2463) is different from what I had though, mine was P0380, which pointed directly to the glow plug. The parts situation for my repair was pretty quick, the workshop had the glow plug in stock, so I didn't have to wait. But I've heard from other M3/M4 owners that parts can sometimes take 3-5 business days if they need to be ordered. Since you mentioned yours just had service two months ago, maybe check if they did anything related to the heating system? Sometimes these issues can pop up after routine maintenance if something wasn't reconnected properly. With your mileage being relatively low, I'd definitely push for warranty coverage if possible, might save you that repair bill I had to pay. Quick tip from my experience, if you're booking it in, try to do it sooner rather than later. These heating issues tend to be more annoying when the weather gets colder, and workshop schedules fill up fast. Let me know what you find out, really curious if it's the same glow plug issue or something else!
Thanks so much for all the detailed info! You've definitely given me some good pointers to work with. I just checked my service records, and they actually didn't touch the heating system during the last maintenance, so that rules out any connection there. I'll call the workshop tomorrow morning to get it booked in. You're right about not waiting, better to sort it now than deal with a non-working heater when I really need it. Since my error code is different from yours, I won't get my hopes up about it being a quick glow plug fix, but fingers crossed it's nothing too major. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and tips. I'll probably update once I know what's actually causing the problem, might help someone else down the line with similar issues.
Hey! I've got some experience with BMWs (low experience). Had a similar issue with my 2020 BMW M3 last winter. The auxiliary heater completely stopped working, just like yours. After getting a few error codes, I took it to my trusted workshop. They diagnosed a faulty glow plug in the auxiliary heater unit. The repair took about 3 hours, and I ended up paying around 440 Euro, parts and labor included. Since then, the heater's been working perfectly. Could you share what error code you're getting? Also, have you noticed any other symptoms, like increased fuel consumption or strange noises before it stopped working? Would help to know the exact code to see if it's the same issue I had. Might be worth mentioning, while my M3 had this issue, my 's BMW M5 from the same year never had any heating problems. Sometimes it's just luck of the draw with these components.
