Oil light on

Hi all! Got a bit worried about my 2019 BMW M4 (81k km). Getting multiple warnings on the dash, oil level measurement not working, pressure warning light, and some error codes. Think it might be the oil level sensor acting up. Had a not-so-great experience with my last mechanic, so I'm hesitant to go back. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms in their M4? What was the actual issue and how much did the repair cost? Any recommendations for dealing with this? Thanks in advance!

I had a similar issue with my 2016 BMW M3 last summer. The symptoms were exactly like yours, multiple oil warnings and error codes popping up on the dash. Took it to the garage and after diagnostics, they found it wasn't actually the oil level sensor. The main issue was a faulty wiring harness connection to the oil pressure sensor. The cables had some corrosion and weren't making proper contact. The mechanic showed me how the connection was loose and degraded. They had to replace the entire wiring harness assembly and the oil pressure sensor. It was a fairly serious job since they had to access some hard-to-reach areas. The repair took about a day and a half to complete. My advice would be to get it checked soon. These warnings shouldn't be ignored as they could potentially indicate more serious engine issues if left unaddressed. While it might just be a sensor or connection problem like in my case, it's better to be safe than sorry with these performance engines.

Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful. Sounds exactly like what I'm experiencing with my M4. I'm going to get it checked out this week, definitely don't want to risk any engine damage. Quick question, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the repair? And has everything been running smoothly since, or have you had any other issues pop up?

Hey, glad I could help! Just wanted to follow up, yes, everything has been running perfectly since I had it fixed. The final bill came to 95 € for fixing what turned out to be just a dodgy cable connection to the oil level sensor. Much cheaper than I initially feared! The mechanic showed me that the old connector was a bit corroded and wasn't making proper contact, causing all those scary warnings on the dash. They cleaned it up and replaced the faulty bits, and I haven't seen a single warning light since. Talk about a relief! Was definitely worth getting it sorted straight away. These high-performance engines are pretty sensitive to these things, so better safe than sorry. Really happy I didn't need the whole wiring harness replaced like I initially thought. Hope your repair goes just as smoothly, let us know how you get on!

Just wanted to update everyone who helped out. Finally got my M4 sorted yesterday! Turns out my issue was a bit different than expected. The mechanic found that some debris had gotten into the sensor area, causing false readings. He thoroughly cleaned everything, replaced a couple of worn connectors, and did a quick system reset. The whole thing cost me about 200 bucks, not too bad considering how worried I was initially! Car's running like a dream now, and all those warning lights have disappeared. Thanks again for the advice, really helped me stay calm about the whole situation. Glad I found a decent mechanic too. He took the time to explain everything and even showed me what was causing the problem. Way better experience than my last garage visit! Makes me realize these fancy sensors can sometimes cause unnecessary panic. Still, better to get things checked out early. Really appreciate everyone's input on this one.
