BMW M4 Bluetooth Problems: Troubleshooting Tips

Smartphone can not be connected

|

Fault stored

Having trouble with my 2018 BMW M4 infotainment system. Can't connect Bluetooth devices, calls drop, and audio keeps cutting out. System shows error messages and won't recognize my phone. Has anyone experienced similar connectivity issues with their M4? What did your mechanic diagnose and how was it resolved? Hoping to get some insight before heading to the workshop.

Hey there! I have some experience working on cars, and I actually faced a similar issue with my 2016 BMW M3 last year. The Bluetooth connectivity was acting up just like yours, super frustrating! Took it to my regular workshop and turns out the Bluetooth module needed a complete reset and reprogramming. The whole thing cost me around 45 Euro and took about an hour to fix. The mechanic explained that these systems sometimes get "confused" with device pairing, especially after multiple phones have been connected over time. Before I can give you more specific advice, could you share: Have you tried deleting all paired devices and starting fresh? What error message exactly are you getting? Has this started happening suddenly or gradually? This would help me better understand if you're dealing with the same issue I had.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Mine started acting up suddenly last week after my latest service (14956 KM). I've already tried deleting paired devices and even did a factory reset, but no luck. The error message keeps showing "Connection failed, Please try again" when attempting to pair any device. Getting quite annoying since I rely on hands-free calls during drives. Your M3 fix sounds promising though, way cheaper than what I was expecting. Will try mentioning this to my mechanic. Hopefully it's just the module needing a reset like in your case rather than having to replace the whole unit.

Hey again! Sorry to hear you're still having issues after the service. You know what, that's exactly how mine started too! Right after a routine service, and I got that same annoying "Connection failed" message. That timing after your service is really suspicious, just like what happened with my M3. I'm betting they might have done a software update during the service that didn't quite agree with the Bluetooth module. When this happened to my car, I actually spoke to a few other BMW owners in my car club, and quite a few mentioned similar issues after services. I'd definitely push your mechanic about the reset and reprogramming route first. In my case, they initially suggested replacing the whole communication unit (which would've cost a fortune!), but the reset fixed everything perfectly. Been running smooth for over a year now with no issues. Quick tip though, after they do the reset, make sure you wait a few minutes before trying to pair your phone. I got a bit impatient the first time and had to have them do it again because I rushed the pairing process. Let me know how it goes! Really hope you get the same easy fix I did.

Thanks so much for all this detailed info, really appreciate you taking the time to explain everything! That's super helpful to know about waiting before pairing after the reset. I've got an appointment booked for tomorrow morning and I'll definitely mention the post-service timing and push for trying the reset first before any expensive replacements. You've saved me from walking into the workshop blind. Will make sure to stand my ground if they try suggesting a complete unit replacement right away. Really relieved to hear this is apparently a common issue with a relatively simple fix. And thanks for that heads up about being patient with the pairing process, I'm usually pretty impatient with tech stuff, so I definitely would've rushed it! I'll update you on how it goes. Thanks again for all your help and for sharing your experience, you've made this whole situation way less stressful!

Let our mechanics help you!
