Thanks so much for sharing your experience! Really helpful to know about the voltage regulator and wiring harness issues. My symptoms sound exactly like what you described. You've given me the confidence to get this sorted properly at a certified shop rather than trying quick fixes. Just wondering, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the full repair? Also, has everything been running smoothly since they fixed it, or have you noticed any other electrical quirks pop up? Thanks again for the detailed response!
Hey there! Just wanted to follow up on your questions. Yeah, everything's been running perfectly since I got it fixed, especially that annoying turn signal issue which was driving me nuts. The mechanic found it was just a bad cable connection that needed sorting out, cost me 95€ to fix that part. As for the total repair bill, including the voltage regulator work and fixing those corroded connections we talked about earlier, it was a bit steep, around 1200€ all in. But honestly, it was worth every penny. Haven't had a single electrical gremlin since, and it's been about three months now. The lights are back to their proper white color, no more purple tint, and all the dashboard warnings have disappeared. Really glad I could help point you in the right direction. These electrical issues can be tricky, but once you get them sorted properly, they usually stay fixed. Just make sure you go to someone who really knows BMWs, makes all the difference!
Just got back from the mechanic, and wow, what a relief! Took your advice and went to a certified BMW specialist. Turned out my issue was similar but a bit different. They found a faulty ground connection and some water damage near the headlight assembly. Plus, there was this weird corrosion on one of the main connectors that was causing all those dashboard errors. Total bill came to about 900 bucks, not as bad as I feared! They cleaned up all the connections, replaced the damaged wiring, and installed new headlight ballasts. The car's running like a dream now. No more purple lights, no more dashboard warnings, and the turn signals are working perfectly. Can't thank you enough for pushing me to get it done properly instead of looking for quick fixes. You were absolutely right about going to someone who knows these cars inside out. They even showed me all the damaged parts and explained everything. Such a different experience from my last mechanic! Guess I've learned my lesson about dealing with electrical issues early on. Thanks again for all your help!
Had similar issues on my 2016 BMW M4. The purple xenon lights and funky electrical behavior pointed to a failing voltage regulator in the headlight assembly, along with some corroded wiring connectors near the fuse box. When I took it to the garage last month, they found water had gotten into the main wiring harness connector under the hood, causing intermittent electrical issues with both the lighting and instrument cluster. The connections needed cleaning and resealing, plus they replaced the xenon ballasts. It was quite serious since water damage in electrical systems can spread and cause more problems if left unchecked. The mechanics spent a good amount of time tracing all the affected circuits to prevent future issues. My advice: Don't wait on this one. Get it checked by a certified BMW tech who knows these electrical systems. Temporary fixes usually don't work with these complex electrical problems.
