Thanks for sharing your experience! My M3 has 115434 KM and just had its service last month. I'm getting error code "CC 45-22" on the display. Your electrical issue sounds similar to what I'm experiencing, especially with the intermittent failures. Good to know it wasn't too expensive to fix, definitely putting my mind at ease a bit. Guess I should stop trying to DIY this one and get it checked out by a professional. Has the fix held up well since you had it done?
Hey again! Glad I could help ease your mind about the potential costs. Yes, the fix has held up perfectly since I had it done about 8 months ago. No issues whatsoever with the climate control system. That error code you mentioned (CC 45-22) is actually different from what I had, though. Mine was showing CC 32-14, which pointed directly to the wiring connection problem. Your code typically indicates a potential issue with the control module itself rather than just loose wiring like in my case. Since your car just had service last month, I'd definitely talk to the workshop that did the service, sometimes these issues can be related to work that was done during routine maintenance. Also, given that your M3 has higher mileage than mine did when I had the problem (mine was at around 89000 KM), it could be worth having them check the entire climate control system. Still can't praise my mechanic enough for how they handled my issue. Would definitely recommend getting it professionally checked rather than DIY, these modern BMWs can be pretty complex when it comes to electronics. Let me know how it goes!
Thanks everyone for your help! I just got back from the workshop and wanted to update on my BMW M3 climate control situation. Turns out the issue was indeed more complex than loose wiring, the control module needed replacement, just as suggested based on that error code. Cost was higher than your repair, came to about 450 for parts and labor, but at least it's sorted now. They also found and fixed a small refrigerant leak while they were at it, which probably contributed to the AC problems. Really glad I didn't try to mess with it myself. The car's running perfectly now, climate control's working like new, no more error messages, and the AC is actually colder than it was before. Thanks again for helping me understand what I was dealing with. Definitely saved me some headaches by getting it professionally checked instead of attempting a DIY fix!
Hey there! I had something very similar happen with my 2019 BMW M4. Having some experience working on cars helped me identify that it was likely electrical, but I still needed professional help for this one. Initially thought I could fix it myself, but the error messages were concerning. Took it to my regular workshop and they found it was a faulty wiring connection to the climate control module. The cables had worked loose over time causing intermittent failures. Total fix was 95 Euro, mostly labor costs for diagnosing and reconnecting everything properly. What's the mileage on your M3? Also, are you getting any specific error codes on the display? This could help narrow down if you're dealing with the same issue I had.
