Thanks for sharing your experience! My M3 has 67829 KM on the clock, and it was just serviced last month. Actually, now that you mention it, I did notice a slight whining noise from the dash area for about a week before it completely stopped working. No burning smell though. This really helps to know it could be the blower motor itself. Do you remember how long the repair took at your workshop? I'm trying to figure out if I should set aside a full day for this. Also, did they mention anything about checking the resistor pack while they were in there? Just want to make sure I get everything sorted in one go.
Hey again! Thanks for the follow-up about your M3. You know what, those symptoms sound exactly like what I experienced with my M5. The whining noise is pretty much a dead giveaway, that's exactly what mine did before giving up completely. The repair on my car took about 3-4 hours. I dropped it off in the morning and picked it up after lunch. While they were working on it, they did check the resistor pack (I specifically asked about this too!) and it turned out to be fine in my case. But it's definitely worth having them look at it while they're in there. Just a heads up, when they replaced my blower motor, they discovered some leaves and debris had gotten in there over the years. Might be worth having them clean out the whole area while they're at it. Since your M3 has similar mileage to what my M5 had when this happened, I wouldn't be surprised if you're dealing with the same thing. Keep me posted on what you find out. Always interested to hear if it's the same issue I dealt with.
Thanks so much for all the detailed info! That's really helpful to know about the repair timeline, I'll schedule it for morning drop-off then. Great tip about checking for debris too, makes total sense considering the car's age. I've just booked it in for next week and specifically mentioned checking the resistor pack and cleaning out the area like you suggested. The symptoms matching up with your experience gives me more confidence about what I'm dealing with. My mechanic quoted roughly the same price range as what you paid too, so that's reassuring. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, it's exactly what I needed to know. I'll try to remember to update you once it's fixed. Thanks again for all the help!
Hi there! I had some experience with a similar issue on my 2005 BMW M5 (also had an M6 before). I'd say I have low experience with car repairs, mostly basic maintenance stuff. My blower died completely last summer, no air coming out at all, just like yours. After taking it to my regular workshop, they diagnosed a fried blower motor. Had it replaced and hasn't given me any trouble since. Total bill was around 365 Euro including labor. What's the mileage on your M3? And have you noticed any burning smell or weird noises before it died? This could help pinpoint if it's the same issue I had. Feel free to share more details about any symptoms you noticed before the failure. It might help determine if you're dealing with the same problem.
