BMW M2 Total Electrical Failure, FlexRay Bus Issue?

Hey BMW M2 owners! My 2019 model has gone completely dark, all electrical systems are failing, including the audio system. Getting multiple error codes and nothing seems to work properly. I suspect it might be a FlexRay bus issue. Has anyone dealt with similar electrical failures in their M2? Curious about your repair experiences and what the actual problem turned out to be. Would really appreciate hearing what fixes worked for you.

I have some experience working on BMWs and faced something very similar with my 2017 BMW M4. These electrical gremlins can be super frustrating! Had the exact same symptoms, complete electrical failure and multiple error codes. Took it to my regular workshop, and they found it was just a faulty connector to the main control module. The cable had worked itself loose over time and was causing all sorts of chaos. Total repair was 95 Euro, mainly labor costs for diagnosing and fixing the connection. Before you panic about a major electrical issue, definitely have them check the cable connections first. These problems can sometimes seem way worse than they actually are. Could you share your exact error codes? Also, did you notice any warning signs before the complete failure? This info would help pinpoint if you're dealing with the same issue I had.

Thanks for sharing your M4 experience! I'm having the same nightmare with my M2 (74384 KM, last serviced two months ago). Initially thought it could be something major, so your connector issue gives me hope. Just pulled the error codes, getting fault codes 0xb74853 and 0xb74856. Thinking back, there were some warning signs I probably should've caught, the infotainment would occasionally flicker for a split second, especially when hitting bumps. It's a relief to hear yours was fixed without breaking the bank. Will definitely have my mechanic check those connections first before diving into anything more complex. Thanks for the tip, fingers crossed it's something this straightforward!

Hey! So glad you mentioned those specific error codes, they're exactly what I saw on my M4 before everything went dark! Those codes typically point to communication issues in the electrical system, and after seeing your comment about the flickering infotainment (especially over bumps), I'm even more convinced you're dealing with the same loose connector problem I had. My screen used to do that little flicker dance too! Quick tip from my experience, when my mechanic was fixing it, they found the connector had some slight corrosion too. They cleaned it up while they were in there, which probably prevented future issues. Might be worth asking your mechanic to check for that as well. Just don't let them try convincing you it's the FlexRay bus without checking these basics first. I almost got talked into a much more expensive repair before they found the real issue. Given your car's mileage and symptoms, I'd bet good money it's the same connector problem. Keep us posted on what they find! Always good to share these fixes with other BMW owners dealing with similar headaches.

Really appreciate the detailed insight and advice! Those flickering symptoms matching yours definitely makes me feel better about this whole situation. It's crazy how a simple loose connector can cause such chaos in these high-tech cars. I've already called my mechanic and scheduled an appointment for tomorrow morning. Made sure to mention the connector issue and specifically asked them to check for corrosion too, great tip by the way! You've probably saved me a ton of money and stress by sharing your experience. Thanks for warning me about the potential upsell to more complex repairs. I'll make sure they thoroughly check the connections before jumping to any expensive conclusions about the FlexRay bus or other major systems. Will definitely update the thread once I get it sorted. Fingers crossed it's just that pesky connector like in your case. Thanks again for taking the time to help out, this is exactly why I love the BMW community!
