BMW M2 Stalling at Idle: Fuel System Warning Signs

Check engine light on

Stalling while idling

Hey all! Got a bit concerned about my 2022 BMW M2 (20k km). The engine's been acting up lately, check engine light is on and it keeps stalling at idle. Diagnostic shows an error code and I suspect it might be fuel-related. Had a not-so-great experience with my previous mechanic, so I'm hesitant to go back. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms in their M2? Looking for recommendations on what to check and maybe a reliable mechanic. Would really appreciate your insights! Thanks!

Had the same issue on my 2019 BMW M4 last month. The symptoms were identical, check engine light, stalling at idle. Turned out the fuel pump control module connector was loose and had some corrosion. The harness wasn't properly secured, causing intermittent connection issues. Took it to the garage, they cleaned the connector pins, replaced the wiring harness, and properly secured everything. Not a major repair, but definitely needed professional attention. The car's been running smooth since then, no more stalling. For your M2, I'd suggest getting the fuel system checked, particularly the electrical connections. These symptoms often point to fuel delivery problems. Since it's a 2022, it should still be under warranty, might want to consider taking it to the dealer instead of an independent shop.

Thanks for sharing your experience! That definitely sounds like what I'm dealing with. The symptoms match up perfectly. Quick question, do you remember roughly how much the repair set you back? And has everything been running smoothly since then, or have you noticed any other quirks? Just want to get an idea of what I might be looking at cost-wise and if I should expect any follow-up issues. Thanks again for the help with my M2!

Hey there! Happy to follow up about the repair on my M4. Yeah, I got it sorted at the mechanic and it cost me 95€ for fixing the cable connection issue. They also found and corrected the fuel mixture that was a bit off, which was actually contributing to the problem. The whole thing was pretty straightforward once they identified the issue. I've put about 3,000 km on it since the repair, and honestly, it's running like a dream, no more stalling, no check engine light, nothing. The idle is smooth as butter now. Definitely worth every penny! You should have your M2 running perfectly again once they fix that connection. Just make sure they check the fuel composition too, that turned out to be part of the puzzle in my case. Don't stress too much about follow-up issues; once they get it right, you should be good to go! Let me know how it turns out with yours. Always happy to help a fellow BMW owner!

Just wanted to update you all on my M2 situation. Took your advice and got it checked out yesterday. You were spot on, it was indeed a connector issue plus some funky fuel system stuff. The mechanic I found was actually great, really knew his BMWs inside out. The total bill came to a bit more than yours, had to replace a few extra bits, but honestly, it was worth every penny. The car's running beautifully now, no more stalling, and that annoying check engine light is finally off. Took it for a proper drive this morning and it feels like a completely different car. Really appreciate your help on this one. Sometimes these things seem way scarier than they actually are, especially when you're dealing with a relatively new car. Guess I've found my new go-to mechanic too, which is a nice bonus. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!
