BMW M2 Navigation Dead, Electrical System Warning Alert

Navigationssystem is not working

|

General electrical malfunction

Hi there! Having issues with my 2016 BMW M2 (29.5k km, gas engine) and need some advice. My car's electrical system is acting up, navigation completely dead and getting general electrical malfunction warnings. I think it might be related to Transport Mode, but not entirely sure. Had some questionable work done at my last mechanic visit and want to avoid another bad experience. Has anyone dealt with similar electrical/nav system problems in their M2? What was the actual issue and how much did the repair cost? Looking for recommendations on what to check first. Thanks in advance for any help!

Hey there! I had similar electrical gremlins with my 2019 BMW M4 last year. The symptoms match what you're describing, dead nav and those annoying electrical malfunction warnings. After diagnostic tests, turned out the main battery was severely degraded and wasn't providing stable voltage to the electrical systems. The repair involved replacing the battery and reprogramming the vehicle control modules. It was a serious fix since multiple systems were affected. My advice would be to get the battery checked first, it's often the root cause of electrical issues in these cars. My previous mechanic also messed up some electrical work, so I get your concern. Would strongly recommend going to a BMW specialist who knows these complex systems well. Hope this helps with your troubleshooting. Best regards

Hey, thanks for sharing that info about your M4's electrical problems! Really helpful to know about the battery being the culprit, my symptoms do sound pretty much identical to what you experienced. Would you mind sharing how much the battery replacement and reprogramming ended up costing you? Also curious if you've had any other electrical problems since getting it fixed? Thanks!

Hey again! Really happy to follow up about the M4 electrical fixes! I actually just checked with my mechanic last week and the Transport Mode issue was completely resolved. Everything's running perfectly now, no more electrical problems at all since the repair. The best part? Since my M4 was still under warranty, I didn't have to pay anything for the fix. Zero cost, which was a huge relief! The dealer confirmed it was a known issue with some units, so they handled it all under warranty coverage. Just a heads-up though, if your warranty has expired, the battery replacement and reprogramming can be a bit pricey. But honestly, it's worth getting it sorted properly by a specialist who knows these systems inside out. The car's been running like a dream since, nav system's perfect, no more warning lights, and all electrical systems working exactly as they should. It's such a relief when these things get fixed right! Let me know if you need any other details about the repair process!

Thanks for all that detail! After hearing your advice, I went ahead and took my M2 to a specialist mechanic. You were spot on, it was a battery issue plus some wonky wiring from the previous mechanic's work. The whole thing set me back about €800, which wasn't cheap, but at least everything's working properly now. The nav system's back up, those annoying warning lights are gone, and the car feels like new again. The mechanic even found and fixed some loose connections that could've caused more problems down the line. Funny how a bad battery can mess up so many systems! Really glad I didn't waste time trying unusual fixes. Thanks again for steering me in the right direction, you saved me a lot of headaches! Take care!
