Thanks for sharing that experience! I had the exact same problem with my M2, and it was indeed the CCC module that needed replacement. Quick question, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole repair? Also, has everything been running smoothly since then, or have you noticed any other quirks with the system?
Hey again! Glad I could help with my previous experience. About the cost, my repair was actually quite different from what you might expect. Initially, they thought it was the CAN-BUS and were heading down that path, but it turned out to be a control unit communication error. Got that fixed for 235€, which was a relief because I was expecting much worse! Since the repair, everything's been running perfectly smooth, no glitches, no black screens, nothing. The infotainment system works like a charm now. It's such a relief not having to deal with that frustrating black screen anymore! The iDrive responds instantly, and the audio system is working flawlessly too. I know these electronic gremlins can be super annoying, but once you get them sorted with the right diagnosis, they usually stay fixed. Just make sure whoever's working on it really knows their stuff with BMW electronics. These modern systems are pretty complex, and you need someone who knows exactly what they're doing. Have you noticed any improvements since your repair? Always curious to hear how others' experiences compare to mine.
Appreciate your detailed response! I took your advice and found a certified BMW specialist. Finally got it sorted last week. My repair was quite a bit more expensive, around 850€ for the module replacement and programming. Ouch! But I guess that's the price of modern tech. You're absolutely right about getting someone who knows what they're doing. The mechanic I went to this time actually showed me the diagnostic process and explained everything. Much better experience than my previous attempts at getting it fixed. They had it done in about a day and a half, and the difference is night and day. The system's working perfectly now, crystal clear display, smooth iDrive response, and all features are back to normal. Honestly, it's such a relief not having to deal with that frustrating black screen anymore. It really bothered me having such an advanced car with a dead infotainment system. Thanks again for sharing your experience. It really helped me make the decision to get it properly fixed rather than trying cheaper alternatives that might've caused more problems down the line.
I had a similar issue with my 2020 BMW M4. The entire infotainment system went dark, and nothing responded, same symptoms as yours. After taking it to the garage, they diagnosed a faulty CCC control module. Initially, they suspected CAN-BUS issues, but the real culprit was a defective main unit. The amplifier wasn't getting proper signals from the head unit. They had to replace the entire CCC module and reprogram it. It was a serious repair that took two days because they needed to validate all connected systems afterward. Haven't had any issues since then. Before you assume it's a communication bus problem, get the control module checked first. These units can fail due to voltage spikes or just manufacturing defects. In my case, it wasn't related to any wiring or bus issues at all. Just make sure whoever works on it has proper diagnostic tools for BMW systems. Not all shops are equipped to handle these complex electronic issues.
