BMW M2 Door Lock Nightmare: Multiple System Failures

Vehicle cannot be unlocked or locked

Help needed, BMW M2 2018 Door Lock System Problems Having issues with my M2's door locking system. Getting error messages about doors not being closed, can't lock/unlock doors normally, and auto-lock while driving doesn't work. Thinking it might be related to door contact signals. Has anyone dealt with similar issues? Would appreciate hearing about your repair experiences and what the workshop found/fixed. Any tips or suggestions welcome.

Hi there! I can relate to your door lock issues. I have some experience working on cars, and I faced a similar problem with my 2016 BMW M4. The symptoms were almost identical, faulty door lock signals and inconsistent locking behavior. Took it to my regular workshop, and they diagnosed it as a faulty wiring connection in the door lock mechanism. The cables had worn out over time, causing intermittent contact issues. Total repair cost was 95 Euro, mainly labor for accessing the door panel and replacing the damaged connection. Before I can share more specific advice about your M2, could you share: Are all doors affected or just specific ones? Does the key fob still work normally? Have you noticed any other electrical issues? These details would help compare our situations better and might point to whether you're dealing with the same root cause.

Thanks for sharing your experience! My M2 is showing the same symptoms but it's only affecting the driver's side door. The key fob works fine for all other doors except that one. Just had my latest service done last week but they didn't spot this issue. Currently at 85513 KM and the car has been running great otherwise. I'll check if I can spot any obvious wiring issues before taking it to the workshop. Good to know it might just be a wiring connection problem rather than the whole locking mechanism. Your repair cost sounds reasonable, definitely beats having to replace the entire door lock assembly!

Hey again! Thanks for the update on your M2's situation. Yeah, since it's only affecting your driver's side door, it's sounding even more similar to what I dealt with on my M4. The fact that your key fob works fine for the other doors but not the driver's side is actually really helpful info. In my case, that was also one of the tell-tale signs of a wiring issue rather than a complete door lock failure. These BMWs have pretty robust locking mechanisms, but the wiring can get stressed from all that door opening and closing, especially on the driver's side where it gets the most action. Just be careful if you're planning to check the wiring yourself. I tried that initially and almost damaged the door panel clips. These modern BMWs have a bunch of delicate connections running through the door, and it's pretty cramped in there. The workshop ended up showing me how the wiring had rubbed against a metal edge over time, which isn't something you can easily spot without taking things apart properly. Since you've just had a service, maybe give your service center a call and mention these symptoms? They might even cover it under warranty if you're still within the period. Keep us posted on what you find out, always good to share these experiences for other M2 owners!

Thanks for the detailed advice! You make a really good point about being careful with the door panel, I'll skip the DIY inspection and leave it to the pros. Already called my service center and they've squeezed me in for tomorrow morning. They seemed pretty familiar with the issue when I described the symptoms, especially after mentioning it's just the driver's side door. Really appreciate everyone's help on this. Will definitely update the thread once I get it sorted. Fingers crossed it's just a simple wiring fix like yours and nothing more serious. These BMWs might be fantastic machines, but sometimes these little electrical gremlins can drive you crazy!
