Audio system is not working

Hi all! Having trouble with my 2022 BMW M2 (156k km), the infotainment system is acting up. The DAB radio signal keeps cutting out completely, and sometimes I get error messages on the screen. The whole audio system occasionally stops working altogether. Had a not-so-great experience with my previous mechanic, so I'm looking for advice. Has anyone dealt with similar radio/audio issues in their M2? What was the solution, and did you find a reliable mechanic who actually fixed it? Thanks in advance for any help!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2019 BMW M4. The DAB antenna was indeed the culprit, it started with unusual signal drops and those frustrating error messages, just like you're experiencing. Took it to the garage last month, and the diagnostic showed the antenna amplifier was defective. The fix required replacing the antenna module and recoding the head unit. It wasn't just a simple plug-and-play job, but it wasn't super serious either. The mechanic told me this is actually a known issue in some BMW models. For what it's worth, my audio system works perfectly now, no more signal drops or system crashes. If you're getting the same symptoms, it's likely the same problem. Make sure whoever works on it has experience with BMW's infotainment systems and can properly code the new module. Hope this helps.

Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful as it sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. Glad to hear it got sorted out properly. Would you mind sharing how much the repair cost you? Also, has everything stayed working fine since the fix, or have you noticed any other quirks with the system?

Hey again! Happy to give you the update! Yeah, the repair set me back 255 € for the antenna replacement and recoding work. I've got to say, it was worth every penny, the radio reception has been absolutely spot-on since the fix. It's been about six weeks now, and I haven't had a single dropout or error message. The sound quality is actually better than I remember it being when I first got the car! The mechanic really knew their stuff with BMW systems, and they did a thorough job. No other quirks have popped up at all, the whole infotainment system is running smooth as silk. Such a relief not having to deal with those annoying signal drops anymore, especially during long drives. I'd definitely recommend getting it sorted sooner rather than later. Those error messages were driving me nuts before the fix! Let me know if you need any other details about the repair.

Thanks so much for all that detailed info! I ended up taking my M2 to get fixed yesterday, and you were absolutely right, it was the antenna causing all the trouble. The mechanic found the same issue with the antenna amplifier and replaced it. Funny enough, my repair bill came in a bit lower at 220 €, but I'd have happily paid more just to get rid of those annoying glitches! The whole process took about three hours, and they did a fantastic job testing everything afterward. The sound system's been working perfectly since, no more unusual cutouts or error messages popping up. I've got to say, it's such a relief to have a properly working radio again. Just drove for a couple of hours today, and the difference is like night and day. The sound quality is incredible now, I'd actually forgotten how good it could be! Really appreciate everyone's help in pointing me in the right direction with this one. Case closed!
