BMW M2 Airbag Warning & Soft Top Issues? Check Sensor

Hey there! My 2022 BMW M2 has been acting up recently. The airbag warning light is on, error codes are present, and occasionally the soft top gets stuck. I suspect it might be the rollover sensor causing these issues. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms and gotten them fixed? Would love to hear about your repair experience and what the workshop found. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Hey! I had something very similar with my 2020 BMW M4. Total headache! I've got some experience working on cars but nothing too advanced. When I had those warning lights and error codes, I first tried resetting them but they kept coming back. Took it to my trusted workshop and they diagnosed it as a faulty control unit, apparently it was causing all sorts of weird electronic issues. The repair wasn't cheap (cost me around 1000 Euro) but it fixed everything, no more warning lights or errors. They had to replace the control unit completely. What's your exact build date and have you had any accidents or water damage? Also, are you getting any specific error codes? Might help pinpoint if it's the same issue I had. Let me know these details and I can share more about what my mechanic did to fix it.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I've had my M2 for about a year now (53715 KM on the clock) and no accidents or water damage. Just had my latest service done but these issues started popping up recently. The error codes I'm getting are B12345 and B12346. It's really frustrating because everything was working perfectly fine until last week. I'll definitely look into the control unit you mentioned. Did your mechanic mention how long the repair took? I'm hoping to get this sorted quickly since I use the car daily. Really appreciate the detailed response. I might give my workshop a call and mention the control unit issue you had, sounds very similar to what I'm experiencing.

Hey again! Thanks for those details about your M2. Yeah, those error codes are exactly what I had, definitely sounds like the same control unit issue I dealt with. For the repair time, my workshop had the car for about 2 days. They needed one day to properly diagnose everything and get the parts, then another day for the actual repair and testing. The trickiest part was making sure all the systems were properly calibrated after the new unit was installed. Just a heads up, when they replace the control unit, they'll need to do a complete system reset and recalibration. My mechanic said this is super important to make sure all the safety systems work correctly, especially the airbags and rollover protection. Since you're at 53K km, it's actually pretty common for these issues to pop up around this mileage. Mine started acting up at around 48K km. One thing I learned, don't try any DIY fixes on this one. I know it's tempting, but with safety systems involved, it's best left to the pros. Let me know how it goes with your workshop. I'm curious if they find the same issue. Would be good to know for future reference too, since these problems seem to be showing up in quite a few M cars.

Thanks so much for all this information, it's really helpful! Good to know about the 2-day repair timeline. I'll make sure to plan accordingly since I'll need a backup for my daily commute. Just called my workshop and managed to get an appointment for next week. You're absolutely right about not attempting DIY fixes. Was tempted to try resetting the systems myself, but after what you've said about the safety calibrations, I'll definitely leave it to the professionals. The fact that you had similar issues around the same mileage makes me feel better about the whole situation, at least it seems like a known issue rather than something unusual. I'll keep you posted on what they find. Thanks again for sharing your experience, it's really helped me understand what I might be dealing with. Hopefully, it'll be sorted just as smoothly as yours was!
