Thanks for the detailed response! Same issue started happening on my M2 about a week ago, completely out of nowhere. No recent work done on the suspension, and I'm pretty careful with maintenance, last service was just two weeks ago at 99112 KM. Really hoping it's just a wiring issue like yours was, rather than having to replace the whole compressor. The reduced power mode is what's really bugging me, makes the car feel completely different. I'll definitely have them check the electrical connections first. Has anyone else experienced similar problems with their M2?
Hey again! Thanks for the additional info about your M2. Yeah, that timing is interesting, having it pop up right after a service. You know, when I had my M4's issue, it also started pretty suddenly, and I initially panicked thinking it was going to be super expensive. Something I forgot to mention in my first response, before I took it to the workshop, I actually tried disconnecting the battery for about 15 minutes to reset the system. It temporarily fixed the reduced power mode, but the problems came back after a few days. Might be worth trying while you're waiting to get it checked out, though don't expect it to be a permanent fix. Since you mentioned yours is at 99112 KM, that's pretty close to where mine was when I had the issue (around 95000 KM). Could be that the wiring starts showing wear around this mileage. When they fixed mine, they actually found some slight corrosion on the connector pins too, which wasn't helping matters. Have you noticed if the problems get worse when it's cold or after the car sits for a while? That was another tell-tale sign with mine that pointed to electrical rather than mechanical issues. Keep us posted on what your mechanic finds, always good to build up our collective knowledge about these things!
Based on all that helpful input, especially about the electrical connections, let me share my update. Just got back from the shop and you were spot on, it was electrical! They found corroded wiring near the rear suspension control module, pretty similar to what you described with your M4. The connections were damaged and causing all those crazy symptoms. They cleaned up the connections, replaced some wiring, and now everything's working perfectly again. The car sits level, suspension works like new, and best of all, no more reduced power mode! Bill came to about 800 bucks including labor, which is way better than what a new compressor would've cost. Really appreciate everyone's input, especially about checking the electrical system first. Saved me from jumping to conclusions about the compressor. And that battery reset tip would've been helpful while I was waiting for the appointment, I'll remember that for next time! Thanks again for all the help!
Hey there! I've got some experience working on BMWs as a hobby mechanic. Had a similar issue with my 2019 BMW M4 last year. After getting those same symptoms, uneven stance, error lights, and the whole suspension headache, I took it to my regular workshop. Turned out it wasn't actually the compressor itself, but a faulty wiring connection to the suspension control module. The mechanic found a damaged cable that was causing all sorts of weird electrical issues, including those headlight problems you mentioned. Cost me around 95 Euro to get it sorted, mostly labor for tracking down and fixing the connection. Before you jump to conclusions about the compressor, definitely have them check the wiring and connections first. These systems are pretty complex and sometimes it's just a simple electrical issue causing multiple symptoms. Could you share more details about your M2? Like when did these issues start, and did you notice any specific event that might have triggered it? Also, have you had any recent work done on the suspension system?
