Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Hey all! Having trouble with my 2021 BMW iX3 (159k km). The electronic parking brake stopped working completely, and several driver assistance features are down. There's a warning light on the dash, and the hill start assist isn't functioning either. My last mechanic visit wasn't great, so I'm a bit hesitant to go back. Has anyone experienced similar issues with their iX3? Would love to hear about repair experiences and potential costs before choosing where to take it. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2018 BMW i3s. The electronic parking brake failed completely, and it turned out to be a defective electric motor in the brake caliper. The symptoms were identical, parking brake not working, hill assist gone, and warning lights on the dash. Took it to the garage last month. The diagnosis revealed that moisture had gotten into the electric motor unit, causing corrosion and eventual failure. They had to replace the entire brake caliper assembly on one side. It was quite a serious issue since it affected the overall brake safety system. The repair wasn't quick, took them about two days to complete the work as they needed to recalibrate the parking brake system and reset all the related control modules. Given your symptoms, it sounds very similar to what I experienced. I'd definitely recommend getting it checked out soon, as these brake issues shouldn't be ignored. Make sure wherever you take it has experience with BMW electric vehicles. Best of luck with the repair.

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience. Sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with right now. Just curious, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole repair? Also, has everything been working properly since they fixed it? My biggest worry is spending a lot only to have the same issue pop up again.

Hey again! Just wanted to follow up, got my car fixed and everything's working perfectly now! The electronic parking brake issue was indeed exactly what I had suspected, a faulty electric motor in the brake caliper. Cost me 505 € to fix, which included the new parts and labor. The repair shop had to replace and recalibrate the whole unit. Since the repair, I've had zero issues with the parking brake or any other related systems. Hill assist is back to normal, all warning lights are gone, and the brake engages smoothly every time. It's been such a relief not having to worry about it anymore. I know you were concerned about recurring problems, I totally get that. But it's been several months now and everything's still working like new. These BMW electric brake systems are usually quite reliable once properly fixed. Just make sure you get it done by someone who knows what they're doing with electric vehicle systems. Hope this helps with your decision! Let me know if you need any other info about the repair.

Thanks for the detailed update! Actually, I bit the bullet and took my car to a different mechanic last week. What a difference good service makes! They found the same issue, faulty brake caliper motor, and fixed it in about a day and a half. My bill came to around 480 €, pretty close to what you paid. Honestly, I'm just relieved it's sorted now. The parking brake works perfectly, and all those annoying warning lights are finally gone. The mechanic also cleaned up some corrosion they found, which should prevent future problems. You were spot on about finding someone who knows these systems. This new shop specializes in electric vehicles, and it really showed in how they handled everything. They even gave me some maintenance tips to prevent similar issues. Really appreciate your help with this! It definitely made me feel better about getting it fixed instead of putting it off. Cars, right? Always something to deal with!
