BMW iX3 Brake Warning: Finding Reliable EV Service Help

Brake light not working

|

Fault stored

Need advice: BMW iX3 brake light drama, mechanic trust issues Hey everyone! My 2022 BMW iX3 (electric, 8,928 km) is showing some concerning symptoms. The brake light failure warning popped up, there's an error message in the dashboard, and the diagnostic system is storing an error code. I suspect it might be the brake light switch, but after a previous disappointing experience with a mechanic, I'm a bit hesitant. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms in their iX3? Would love to hear about your experiences and if you can recommend any trustworthy mechanics who actually know their way around electric BMWs. Thanks in advance!

As a BMW i4 (2020) owner, I had nearly identical symptoms last year. The brake light warning and error codes turned out to be more than just a faulty switch in my case. The actual problem was a corroded wiring harness connector that was causing intermittent electrical issues with the brake light circuit. The repair wasn't particularly complex, but it required proper diagnostic equipment to pinpoint the exact location of the corrosion. What started as a seemingly simple brake light issue could have developed into a more serious electrical problem if left unaddressed. My suggestion would be to have this checked at a certified EV service center. These brake light issues in electric BMWs often aren't just about replacing a bulb or switch, they're usually connected to the car's complex electrical system. Since your iX3 is relatively new, this could potentially be covered under warranty. Based on my experience, don't take chances with non-specialized mechanics for electrical issues in these vehicles. The diagnostic systems are quite different from conventional cars.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I ran into something very similar with my iX3. It's reassuring to hear I'm not the only one dealing with these electrical gremlins. Do you remember approximately how much the repair set you back? Also, just curious, have you had any other electrical problems since they fixed that wiring harness? Really appreciate the tip about sticking to EV-certified centers.

Hey there! Just wanted to follow up on your questions about the repair costs. Actually, my situation turned out way simpler than I initially thought, nothing like the corroded wiring harness I mentioned before. When I took it to the mechanic, they discovered it was just a bad brake light switch, and even better, it was totally my fault! I'd accidentally knocked it loose while cleaning the car. The mechanic just clicked it back into place, didn't cost me a single cent! Since they fixed that switch, everything's been running perfectly, no more warning lights or error messages. Pretty relieved it wasn't anything serious like I first suspected. Sorry if I worried you with my initial reply about the wiring harness! Sometimes the simplest explanation is the right one. These modern BMWs are really well-built, just occasionally we manage to outsmart ourselves with these errors! Glad I could help, and hope your iX3 is giving you as much joy as my i4 gives me. These EVs are fantastic when everything's working as it should!

What a relief to hear back about your experience! You won't believe what happened with mine, took it to the mechanic yesterday, and turns out I was getting worked up over nothing. The brake warning light issue wasn't nearly as complicated as we thought. The mechanic found a minor connection issue that took about 30 minutes to fix. Cost me just under €100 for the diagnostic and repair. Honestly, I was expecting much worse after my previous mechanic troubles, but this new place was fantastic. The technician walked me through everything they were doing and even showed me what to look out for in the future. Makes me feel pretty silly for getting so worried! The car's running perfectly now, no more warning lights or error messages. Guess sometimes we just need to find the right mechanic who knows their stuff. Thanks again for all your help and for sharing your story. It definitely made me feel better about getting it checked out!
